Rumor: Intel and Apple working on ‘intelligent device’

“The latest rumor is that Intel and Apple are working together on a kind of intelligent device which is no iPod because it has more of a brain than that,” Eva Glass writes for The Inquirer.

Glass writes, “A movie service, a Blue Dolphin, and Steve Jobs and Paul Ottelini considering the future with a Dual Core Duo, with a movie service to boot. My kind of laptop.”

  1. “The latest rumor is that Intel and Apple are working together on a kind of intelligent device which is no iPod because it has more of a brain than that,” Eva Glass writes for The Inquirer.

Please test it on Thurrott and Enderle as a brain substitute. But make sure it’s droolproof first.

  2. Interesting speculation, but costs of core duo chips are going to have to come way down in order for a new generation consumer device to be possible.

Heck, I keep hoping for the newton successor, a tablet mac, to hit the market with the same screen size factor as a widescreen 7 inch dvd player.

  3. I recall Intel’s statement that Apple was allowing them to view their own tech differently. I buy it that something new is coming– but this isn’t exactly expert prognostication. It’s more of a “Duh!”

  4. Intel has been waiting for years for Apple to adopt their platform so that they could INNOVATE. Intel spent too many years under the slow progressing Microsoft paradigm. Releasing new OSes every FIVE years? Patching ancient OS technology to handle newer hardware technology? How can hardware companies buy into such a roadmap. OS upgrades are the path to new and improved hardware technologies. Apple delivers on its promises with OS upgrades, they don’t promise everything then strip it all out when it comes time to release. How can any consumer or company buy into Microsoft’s roadmap?

Apple to Intel: You can now start to innovate, we’ll keep up, unlike the “other guy”.

  5. I work at Intel and can tell folks what this Apple device is.

It’s a 23″ iMac type device that integrates HD and computer in one device.

    It’s controlled by a remote.

The computer and the HD TV are completely seperate operations, so Hollywood can’t complain.

It will play BlueRay HD movies, have digital and analog audio outputs.

With this device, instead of buying two expensive seperate devices, one can buy just one.

Apple is focusing more on the consumer products area, but has a uneasy alliance with Sony which is producing the same type of devices, only using Windows media center.

  6. I just wish that Apple would release SOMETHING new (MacPro not withstanding).

Something unexpected, something ground breaking, something, ANYTHING.

Movie service, iPhone, new iPod, iPod video, home entertainment server, PVR, ANYTHING, Apple just release the f***ing thing!

I’m fed up with these rumors; Apple’s looking into this, Apple’s working with someone on that, remember your motto SJ? REAL ARTISTS SHIP!

It’s kinda’ quiet out there at the moment.
