Apple today released Boot Camp 1.1 beta which contains many updates and is intended for all new and previous Boot Camp beta users.
Boot Camp 1.1 beta includes:
• Support for the latest Intel-based Macintosh computers
• Easier partitioning using presets for popular sizes
• Ability to install Windows XP on any internal disk
• iSight camera support
• Support for built-in microphones
• Right-click when pressing the right-hand Apple key on Apple keyboards
• Improved Apple keyboard support including Delete, PrintScreen, NumLock, and ScrollLock keys
Updating to Boot Camp 1.1 beta: If you previously installed Boot Camp beta, you should update to Boot Camp 1.1 beta. You don’t need to partition your hard drive again (unless you want to change its size) or reinstall your Macintosh and Windows software or documents, but it’s very important to update the Boot Camp Assistant software, create a new Macintosh Drivers for Windows CD and install the updated software it contains on Windows XP. Complete instructions are provided in the Installation and Setup Guide included with the Boot Camp 1.1 beta software.

I thought that much would be obvious at least.

This is also a booster shot for keeping the switching meme in the news. The more boot camp and other software that allow Windows to run on a Mac are discussed in articles, the more Windows users will be reminded of the best option — just buy a Mac.

I hope that is a misprint. Wouldn’t it make more sense to have the right click modifier be the left apple key. If I have my right hand on my mouse I don’t want to have to move my left to get to the right apple button. Makes sense for lefties I guess. Then again why isn’t it both keys. Is there some other use of the left apple key during clicking that I’m not aware of.

We have heard your, and other MDN reader’s, onjection to installing windows on YOUR macs. You have been very vocal about it but remember those are YOUR macs, not mine. Some people have a legitimate need to run windows and based on the number of people I know who are switching to mac for boot camp/parallels a lot of people have an interest in OS X. Stop bashing this. We’ve heard your gripes and to be polite, I’m fscking sick of your whining.
This may be an insight into Leopard features. Since Boot Camp now lets a user install the flaming piece of trash we sane people call Windows on an external drive, does this mean users can expect to be able to switch between the two seamlessly without having to reboot? That is assuming in the time you’re using that garbage OS (that hopefully you bootlegged and didn’t pay for) it doesn’t crash and burn on you.
Boot Camp was a prime reason that I bought a MacBook Pro. Without the ability to run Windows natively, it wouldn’t have been worth it to me. Apple rocks.
Isn’t anybody happy about any of it? I mean, they got a lot of stuff working. That’s a good thing.
The cam in particular seemed to be a biggie out there in speculation land. We might not care here in the snark-o forums, but it’s apparent. to me at least, that quite a few folks out there in the real world will probably be very pleased.
I’m still waiting for the USB Modem Driver to be made available for windows.

I don’t believe that is a misprint regarding the right-hand apple key. On Windows keyboards there is a totally stupid key called the “Application” key, located to the right of the right-hand “Alt” key. When one presses the application key, it performs a right click in whatever application the user is currently working in. So, I think what Apple has done is simply make the Mac keyboard function a little more like a Windows keyboard by allowing anyone who commonly makes use of the “Application” key to continue to do so.
Note that the key is NOT a modifier key like “Control” on a Mac keyboard. It is a key that only works when pressed and released.

And why should they right? After all it’s a lame duck version, software from Adobe isn’t ready either.
It’s a whole platform change all over again and people haven’t gotten the value out of PPC G5’s yet.
There is some interest on the Apple forums, but nothing like when the G5 was released, that was insane.
Expect Apple stock to dive, people are struggling to make ends meet right now and the US economy is headed for a post real estate bubble recession.

Nutz… nice poll, very scientific for you to get so worked up about it. It has already swung so far that now only 46% plan to purchase… and I’m sure you were adding up some other categories, but whatever, it is meaningless. BTW, Apple doesn’t expect the Mac Pro to be their best selling PC either, so don’t raise the bar quite so high for that particular model.
As for the economy… take a breath, the sky is not falling. The housing bubble looks like an inflated waterballon next to what was the internet bubble. This bubble has an actual foundation to it, and so far, everything is coming down nice and slow, just like one would want… cycles in the economy are normal, as long as they are controlled, and this one seems to have a decent driver along for the ride.
And those gas prices will come down soon enough, but don’t worry, it is really only impacting the ‘walmart’ segment of the economy, which, as of now, haven’t been Mac buyers anyway.
Apple’s stock will be just fine.
