Zune already shedding features? ‘iPod killer’ won’t offer video at launch

“Bloomberg TV says that the New York Post is now reporting that Microsoft is delaying the video portion of its Zune device which is to take on the ubiquitous Apple iPod,” Neo reports for Macsimum News.

“With the news of Zune not having video features at launch, you could already begin laughing at what the media had prematurely labeled as Microsoft’s iPod-Killer. It’s vaporware, all over again,” Neo writes.

  1. If it comes from the New York Post its 100% false. The Post is the National Enquirer of NYC.

If it comes from the NY Times, its probably 60% bullsh*t and 40% lies.

If it comes from the NY Daily News, then its 40% bullsh*t and 60% lies.

If it comes from the Village Voice, the world is ending

If it comes from the NY Sun – wait, nobody reads that paper. Forget it.

If it comes from the NY Observer it doesn’t exist.

  2. “Your so f***ing lame…”

Doesn’t matter who reported it, it’s the truth no matter how 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th hand it is.

Can’t you admit that Microsoft haven’t a hope in hell to survive the next 5-10 years?
The writing’s on the wall, Gates is smart enough to bail out now, why don’t you?

Go-on… visit http://www.apple.com, buy a MacBook just like all your friends are doing…

Guess the truth hurts doesn’t it?

  3. “…or WMV and MP4 compressed files are about 4 times the size, lack the quality and versatility, of QuickTime w/ H.264 compression.”

Actually, mp4 and H.264 are basically the same standard. H.264 is a specific part of the mp4 standard. If you don’t believe me, go to Apple’s Quicktime and export a video. Select “Movie to MPEG-4”, click on options and click on the Video Format options. It will give you a list of the following: None, MPEG-4 Basic, MPEG-4 Improved, and H.264. When exported this way (and selecting H.264), the file will be an mp4 file encoded with the H.264 standard. H.264 is not Apple’s standard, it is part of the entire mp4 standard that happens to have incredibly quality. H.264 is NOT a proprietary encoding.

  4. Hold all your iPod Christmas purchases people. We, the fine folks you know at Microsoft, will have a fabulous iPod killer called Zune you can buy. We’ll also convert all of your iTunes music for you. Not only that, Zune will do everything iPod does and everything iPod doesn’t do.

    No kidding, just wait.

It will be unbelieveable, just wait.

If that’s not the classic definition of vaporware, what is?

  5. Remember how everyone “leaked” photos of Zune and everyone bashed it (understandably, since it is a MS product) for it’s poor design.

Then remember how speculation came about that those photos that everyone, including MDN, showed on their websites were actually fake photos released by MS themselves. (Sort of like how they released the “If MS Designed the iPod Packaging” video themselves, too.)

How do we know this isn’t another crappy MS stunt? How do we know that the Zune is “shedding” features for sure?
