Hmmm…I’m assuming that “iChat support” in the monitors means that they will start coming with iSight cameras built into the bezel, ala the iMac.

Interesting, but the story sounds fishy. Also, Apple changes daily in what products will go public. Even if any of these were true, they all could change tomorrow as the consumer demand changes.

I really don’t think that you should put a camera at the top of a 30″ monitor as you would have to stand up to get your face in the picture..
what happens if you have two displays? Do both cameras work? Would that be practical?

Wow. I guess Apple has a stockpile of products fully developed and ready to go, just waiting to see what “consumer demand” dictates. Then, I suppose, at any given time, Apple will drop the right new product in our (the public’s) fishbowl, sparking a feeding frenzy?

This is my first time, so please be gentle with me. And, as a first-time poster, I finally know WTF everyone has been talking about with the “MDN Word” all this time! I’ve been ‘lurking’ here for months and I never ‘got’ it before. Wow! I’ve never felt so alive! By the way, I want to tell you all that I bring vital knowledge to the site, such as where the apostrophes go (its, it’s, etc.) and I also know the right way to use your, you’re, they’re, their, we’re, were, where, etc., etc.. This is gonna be grand. Just grand, I say! (Do I hear retching sounds?)
Anyway, the whole thing on dvdnewsroom is doo-doo. Someone wanted to lend credibility to opinions that would otherwise not have gotten a second glance (or maybe just bring people to their site?), so they came up with the idea of claiming it’s from an Apple Employee (“oooooooh, I happen to know for a fact that employees get FIRED if they talk to anyone outside of Apple, so this one MUST be true!”). Arrggghhh.
Unfortunately, the writer apparently doesn’t have any friends or, if he does, he doesn’t talk to them on the phone much. If I had a “confidante” that I have “known since college” and she talked to me like a politician reading a prepared statement, I’d find me another confidante. And although I don’t want to accuse anyone of ‘fibbing’, It occurs to me that, although Alexander may not be “in the Apple rumor mill business”, he is still in *business* and a few thousand extra people visiting his site probably doesn’t suck. Regardless of the reason for the lie, it’s still a lie. That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Still, this is nothing more than a cleverly prepared rumor.
Maybe Apple will finally announce that it is going out of business because its business plans suck? The big news is a telephone and that Apple will actually use the upgraded chips from Intel? Wow, guess this is earth shattering since HP and DELL are also using those same chips for better performance and much cheaper prices. Time to switch back to windows before Steve Jobs empties your bank account.

Lance, take great care in appointing yourself as grammar czar.
For such a czar would never use the redundant “etc., etc.” lest they were quoting the KIng of Siam character in “The King and I” and a grammar guru would never use ‘fibbing’ when they meant “fibbing”, and even then, there is no need for any quotes in the context it was used.
While some dictionaries do list “gonna” as a contraction of “going to”, it is very informal and should only be used to emphasize an intentional tone of informality, much like “ain’t”. Being that you were writing about policing the grammar around here, its use is not warranted, and you should have used the more widely accepted “going to”.
But, given the openness of this forum and the average I.Q. of its contributors, being grammar czar to this horde would be a full time job without any reward; they will learn nothing, and care even less.

There is one thing about this article that gives it some credence. The timing of Mac Pro availability in the Oct/Nov time frame sounds right. Intel is only now starting a production ramp up on its new Core 2 CPU’s and is projecting only 1 million chips available during the first 10 weeks. That’s just not enough product for any major CPU vendor.
Apple has to get some inventory ready and also wait for Intel to get up the production learning curve. The good news is that nobody is Intel’s match in being successful at ramp up.

and apple will only put in drm if they have to; i.e. all other monitors will have it too…..

Yikes… methinks either I misrepresented myself or things were *read* that weren’t *written* (gotta learn how to italicize in here). I made no claim to be a “grammar czar”. Nor did I suggest I would correct anyone’s posts (although, MDN, it was truly an honor to be typed at by you). There’s no surer way to have your *own* posts analyzed and corrected-to-death by others than to correct someone’s’ mistakes on a message board. I have no desire to do that ’cause I’m by no means a grammar expert and I make typos lije everyone else.
I merely touted the fact that I know the basics of the most-‘oft (and IMHO ‘simple’) mistakes people make with its, it’s, their they’re, etc., with the intent of lightly poking fun at, and commenting on, the overwhelming (and frightening) number of people nowadays who don’t . Coincidentally, before I clicked ‘SUBMIT’, I deleted a couple of sentences in which I’d written about the decline of literacy in America and how embarrassing it is to read company emails in which otherwise perfectly normal people type things like “the companie’s sales are not were their supposed to be so its going to be a tough year…”. I also, unfortunately(?), deleted some stuff about how I don’t think grammatical errors are a big deal in a medium like this, nor are typos, I just bemoan the fact that there’s such a decline in the simple BASICS of English and that it’s become so noticeable it warranted a (light-hearted) comment.
So I ain’t gonna pick apart nobody’s writing. I’ll try to teach by example. I’ll wince every time I see someone write “their” when they mean “they’re” but I’l keep it to myself.
What I want to do here is share my comments on, speculations about, experiences with, and love for, a computer and an operating system that’s so brilliantly and elegantly designed that people like me use the word “love” in describing it.
