  1. I’ll bet the announcement for Universal will happen next week at WWDC. Jobs wouldn’t let Autodesk steal that thunder from him.

Any news about WWDC, by the way? is it webcast anywhere? It should be a pretty big one, i would think.

  2. Tom– I hear that Maya was/is a service and maintenance nightmare. Which is why Apple showed no interest in acquiring it. Also there’s talk that Apple may be doing it’s own 3D sw in the near future to compliment the Shake component..

But your right about autocad– they’re perhaps the worst possible suitor for Alias..it’s too bad..

  3. Let’s see… no 64 bit on Macs, no universal binary, and no really compelling new features (I was at the announcement Sunday)–sounds a LOT like Autodesk it doing its thing to Maya! What a damned shame too: it’s (or used to be) a really good program 🙁

I too wish Apple had bought Alias to prevent this mess from happening. The old Alias folks are sad (they all look beaten), and the culture for innovation at Autodesk sucks. Sad times for 3D…..

  4. I know! I have a company that relies soley on AutoCAD and that entails PC’s. I have G5 iMacs as well for other things. I tried Virtual PC but too slow. I read somewhere they had a petition a few years ago to get them to come over. Baised on the signitures it was going to be over a million dollars of new revenue for them if they did it. How hard would it be to switch it over. I mean if Aspyr can do games with the amount of people they have then Autodesk surely can do it. Just my 2 cents.

  5. Tom Strong…

    Gotta agree with you there!

AutoDesk is on par with Microsoft with their horrific, yet “industry standard” AutoCAD bloated kludge. Thankfully their total market share has been dropping steadily. I’ll stick with VectorWorks, thank you.

Apple SHOULD have purchased Maya AND Alias to add to their stable of professional level graphics and media applications. Oh well…

  6. When the powerful new MacPro Intel machines ship you’ll be able to use all the quality AutoDesk products on Apple computers (Windows XP required).

We’ll soon be dropping native development and support for Mac-OS because it is very expensive and unprofitable for us.

  7. Autodesk have stated they are supporting intel mac, so im sure they are working on maya universal, no one will be getting it until mac pros of course so it isnt an issue just yet! a little trivia: Mac sales account for about 20% of maya sales so theres no way they will be scraping it. and who asked what maya is? oh dear lol watch star wars?

  8. What really needs to happen is an apple version of maya. Apple could and would make it look and operate so much better. Plus they’d probably have a cooler logo ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  9. October 1ST in 2 days, Leopard with full 64bit UI imminent.
No 64Bit Maya 2008 for OS X? Not Even for a New
8 Core Xeon Macpro with a Quadra 4500 in it and 8+ gigs
    of Ram?

What’s the point guys? Vista’s bloatware for whoosies.
    Apple’s the new SGI!
