Apple Retail Store coming to MacArthur Center, Norfolk, Virginia?

“If a picture is worth a thousand words, the image of bitten fruit could confirm that a much-coveted Apple store is coming to MacArthur Center,” Carolyn Shapiro reports for The Virginian-Pilot.

Shapiro reports, “Apple Computer Inc.’s logo appeared in the past week on the walls covering two vacant spaces at the downtown Norfolk mall.”

“Despite this hint of the company’s pending arrival, officials from MacArthur Center and Apple have nothing to say. ‘We have made no announcements about that location,’ Apple spokeswoman Amy Barney said Tuesday,” Shapiro reports.

MacDailyNews Note: MacArthur Center is located in the heart of downtown Norfolk in Southeastern Virginia. The mall’s store directory does not yet list Apple. Apple’s retail pages do not mention MacArthur Center, but, as Shapiro notes in the full article, Apple’s job listings have previously shown MacArthur Center openings, although thy currently do not show anything for that location.

  1. The comments made by posters on this board demonstrate why Apple needs a lot more retail presence. That is why Best Buy’s Apple retail experiment, now underway, is so important. Apple will certainly keep growing their own stores, but to get more complete coverage, they will have to use retail partners. Apple stores are great for Apple’s margins, but retail partners will be important for Apple’s market share.

  2. About f’ing time. They advertised for positions back in February. I was just at the mall a few weeks ago and was trying to figure out where they would locate the store. Can’t wait for the grand opening.

I expect this to help my consulting business big time.

  3. YAY!! Bring it on……..we’ve been waiting for this store to show up!!! An outstanding opportunity for one of the major metropolitan “best kept secrets” in the country. With over 1.75 million people in the south Hampton Roads communities, this will allow LOTS of folks the chance to discover the greatness of Apple!!

  4. This is an important area for Apple to finally get into. The closest stores were in Tyson’s Corner, VA or Charlotte, NC, which was quite a drive. Hampton Roads (Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Hampton/Suffolk) has close to a million people, fairly upscale, lots of military, lots of colleges/universities and lots of tourists. MacArthur Center is easily the most upscale shopping for about a 3 or 4 hour drive. Hoards of people come from out-of-town to do their Christmas shopping.

I just wish it had been there when I lived there!

P.S. Oh yea, I guess Richmond might have an Apple store now, (90 min if you’re lucky) but the drive to Richmond thru Williamsburg and the tunnel is horrible.
