Apple to halt sale of iSight, Airport Base Stations, eMac, and other products in Europe

“Apple Computer will be forced to discontinue the sale of several products in Europe next month because they fail to meet compliance with a European Union directive that will go into effect on July 1st,” Katie Marsal reports for AppleInsider.

“In 2003, the European Union adopted the Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment, also known as the RoHS directive,” Marsal reports. “Effective July 1, 2006, the directive prohibits the sale of electronics that contain hazardous materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and brominated flame retardants.”

Marsal reports, “A handful of Apple products will not meet all the requirements and will therefore be withdrawn from sale in Europe. These products include the iSight, AirPort Base Station With Modem, AirPort Base Station Power Over Ethernet & Antenna, iPod shuffle External Battery Pack and all versions of the eMac all-in-one desktop computer.”

  1. “…In other news, the Earth has a fever. Human pollution is the cause….”

Yeah yeah. Big whoop. I’ve read “hottest in 2000 years” and “hottest in 400 years.”

Junk science is what it is I guess.

Just where did they keep all those cars 2000 years ago and what was the price of gasoline back then?

  2. you moron, did you know that using a macintosh is like being french ?
being a few (mac=5%, french= 1% of world population), think they have the best solution, the more “élégante” and think the others are just cowboy who havent see the truth

  4. I want my SUV, I want my big house, I want, I need, I greed. I could care less about future generations. Therefore I declare any information that may cause me to lead a different lifestyle is simply false B.S. I will deny and rationalize away any facts that counter my desires. . . . . . .

Look around, try to see reality . . . .civilization is indeed on an unsustainable course. Future generations will regret what we are doing to the biosphere at this time. They will pay the price far more than we.

  5. great move. meanwhile, the US still doesn’t give a shite about the environment – and the chinese do what they can to be even worse than the US. But hey, all this is no problem at all, since some scientists claim that temperatures actually were as weird some 1200 yrs ago. Besides, most people won’t change their destructive environmental behavior until it’s too late anyway.

  6. Careless,

The problem is the world used to be a smoldering lush jungly greenhouse. Then the climate changed rapidly and the earth froze. Then something happened to make it warm and thaw and become what it is today.

We really don’t know why. We do know that it wasn’t hairspray or mans SUVs and fossil fuel use though.

Maybe the global warming that “could” be occurring now is the cycle back to the lush jungly greenhouse where there were no polar ice caps etc. Historically the earth’s climate has changed dramatically on its own without our help.

I was terrified last year to find out scientist had discovered that 2 cups of coffee a day causes stomach cancer. I can rest now though that scientist have discovered that 2 cups a day actually PREVENTS cancer.

I do agree with not putting toxic materials in our land fills that end up in our drinking water. That’s common sense we should be using.

  7. You’re the religious fundy MU47. You base your reality on stories written and rewritten long before the printing press. You actually have a lot in common with the wackos that flew jets in the Twin Towers. Logic & science don’t mean much to either of you.

  8. It’s a good point, Jerry. Right now, it sure seems like the vast majority of reports that have come out in the last five years point to the warming being influenced by mankinds existence on this planet. Sure, they could be wrong. But doesn’t it make sense to assume they are right. The consequences of assuming they are wrong are much worse than the consequences of assuming they’re right. Isn’t it better to be safe than sorry?

  9. Pollution, global warming etc. can only be dealt with if the underlying cause is: OVERPOPULATION! Billions must die, I tell you. Bush is doing his part in Iraq, but he needs help from Kim Jong Il, Bin Laden and other megalomaniacal merchants of death.

But then again, we may simply be on a runaway train to oblivion. Enjoy the ride, it will be more thrilling as it continues to speed up.
