Apple and ABC Family to add ‘Kyle XY’ to iTunes Store

“ABC Family is pushing the promotional pump behind upcoming series Kyle XY via a deal with the iTunes Music Store and its first repurposing pact with ABC,” Multichannel News reports.

“Beginning on June 20, six days before the show makes its linear network debut on ABC Family at 8 p.m., users will be able to download the pilot to their video iPods via the iTunes Music Store,” Multichannel News reports. “After June 27, installments of Kyle XY will be available for purchase at $1.99 per episodes, according to officials at both companies.”

“To support the free sneak preview on iTunes, ABC Family has secured a multimedia schedule, including on-air promos, a flash ad on its own Web site, radio spots, banners of aol.com and msn.com, and a print ad in Rolling Stone magazine,” Multichannel News reports. “‘A free preview on iTunes is a fantastic way to build buzz and increase awareness of ‘Kyle XY,” said Paul Lee, president, ABC Family in a statement. ‘It gives our aggressive tease and reveal marketing campaign a major broadband element, that will help drive viewers to the premiere on the 26th.’”

  1. Jon is retarded.

This is news, pal, and it could be a HUGE deal for Apple. How many people will be tuning into iTMS that have never before checked it out? A LOT, you jackass. And if it’s successful, look for other TV shows to follow suit.

  2. Personally, I think every pilot should be free on iTMS, it would spur a lot of business for both Apple and the TV Studios.

And yeah, one more nail in Apple’s taking over TV as we know it isn’t news. Farking blowhards don’t know how important the little steps are, and don’t have anything better to do than type “slow news day”.

You do have low expections of things.
And Apple is not taking over TV you silly twit. The number of people that pay $1.99 for these shows from Apple is about 0.001% of the TV watching market.

  4. Yeah you probably thought iTMS wasn’t a big deal either. The fact that Apple is in the process of having every TV show available to buy for $1.99 without commercials is a big deal. If you can’t see that, that’s your problem.
