Hon Hai Chairman: Apple about to unveil next-gen iPod using a ‘none-touch’ concept

“Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Taiwan’s largest electronics company, said stockholders approved plans to sell NT$58.8 billion (US$1.8 billion) of shares overseas to fund expansion, including possible takeovers. The value of the 300 million shares is based on the stock’s closing price of NT$196 a piece in Taipei. Details and pricing will be set by Chairman Terry Gou later, Hon Hai said at its annual meeting at its headquarters in Tu-Chen City, Taiwan,” George Hsu reports for Bloomberg.

Gou said he expects the company’s revenue to grow at least an average 30 percent in the next five years on rising orders for components from customers such as Sony Corp. and Apple Computer Inc., whose iPod music players are assembled by Hon Hai,” Hsu reports.

“Apple is about to unveil the next generation of iPod, the best-selling music player in the U.S., using a ‘none-touch’ concept, Gou said without elaborating,” Hsu reports.

“None-touch,” as in voice-controlled? Apple Macs already have Speech Recognition, of course. More info on that technology here. Or how about motion-detection via gestures or similar input? If your Nike shoes can talk to your iPod, then a motion sensor on the iPod itself can, too. Or just a bad translation or misquote for “touchscreen?”

Oh, almost forgot, our prayers go out to Chairman Gou. If this is true, we wouldn’t want to be anywhere near Steve Jobs when he finds out the beans have been spilled.

  1. “I hope it was “touch screen” and not “voice controlled”. I really don’t want to have conversations with my iPod…not in public anway.”

    You got that right.

“iPod, play I Want To F*** Your Brains Out, by Goatwhore, then Lick My Balls by Cradle Of Filth.”

(Goatwhore and Cradle Of Filth are REAL bands, by the way).

  2. “What are you . . . . Johnny on the spot, the makeup guy, BFF, some asian-acrobatic-linguistical-genius?”

  4. A voice controlled iPod might be an interesting evolution for the device.

A hands free way of menu navigation similar to the way some cell phones can be set up for hands free use. My wife has hers set up to dial numbers for her. Not for when she’s driving, but all the time. It’s how she calls everyone she knows. She doesn’t have to scroll thru several menus to find the number she’s looking for. She only dials when she calls someone not in the phone’s contact list.

Imagine telling your iPod to play a particular song, artist or playlist, and it just does it. I can see this appealing to a lot of people. Particularly those who use their iPods predominately when they workout or engage in activities where fmanually iddling with the menu could be distracting.

BTW, I don’t own, use, nor endorse the use of iPods.

  5. Ok. This is the company that is behind Foxconn that is behind iPod “slavery”. Company also produces mobile phones for Nokia.

Steve is so pissed off because of the “slavery” accusations that if I would be Chairman Terry Gou I would be so begin for mercy without this.

Hon Hai does not know what precision is and how Apple defines the word KILL.

  6. There will be an opticle sensor integrated next to every pixel..

there will be wifi, there will be bluetooth

there will be an isight cam built in

    ichat will be integrated

video converence on any wireless network with yer ipod.

    — look for none-touch to be

integrated into next gen macs as well.

all software interfaces are migrated to a touch or ‘multi user table top’ interface.

Welcome to the future.. enjoy it.
