Hmm…doing the math, it appears you would actually get the rebate to cover all but $20 of the iPod nano. Only the 512 MB Shuffle would be fully covered by the rebate:

They did this last summer… Right before they got rid of the iPod mini. Either way, it is a sweet deal. The Student discount on most Apple Computer Models has recently been $200… but for some reason it is only $50 for the macbook (it is $200 for the macbook pro). It would make sense for the macbook discount to be at least $100, seing as it costs more than half as much as the pro. This deal makes the macbook a better deal for students.
Anyway, I got an iPod photo last summer for $100 using my friend’s rebate (he already had an iPod and I bought my powerbook before the deal started), when the iPod video came out I sold my iPod photo on ebay for $220, and bought the iPod video for $270… as ya’ll can see, this rebate has a trickle-down effect and it allows people to keep buying iPods when otherwise they might not be able to afford them.

With the student discount the nano is only $170, so it is fully rebated.
MacBook edu discounts follow the same as the iBook discounts – $50 for the low-end and $100 for the standard macbook. This is a fantastic deal for students and teachers because not only are you getting your disounts on the iPod and Mac, you get another $179 off on top of that. So if you were to buy a white MacBook 2.0Ghz – $1299 and a 4GB Nano you will end up paying around $1249 when all is said and done…before tax. Heck, I would just go ahead and bump up to the 30GB with those savings. Good deal, Apple.

Hmmm..decisions, decisions.
My plan was to wait until Jan. and see what MacWorld had to offer. (Since I really don’t need a new computer.) And then had done our current laptops to my 11 & 9 year old daughters. But now with this deal I may need to reconsider.
BTW, my wife is a teacher so we can take advantage of the program.
Looks like there won´t be any new Power Macs (or other updates) until after September….
And since PowerMacs have to come out in October/November to meet the Christmas sales…they won´t so then its wait until January to see what Apple has new to offer. Whew! Another 6 month wait.

Actually the education pricinig on the 2GB Nano is $179 so it would cover everything below that as well. A 30 GB would end up costing a cool $90 bucks.

You have to buy BOTH the mac and the ipod at the same time…………………

then they send you a mail-in $69 – 179 rebate voucher.
Then you have to mail it in – be sure to send it certified mail ($) to prove you sent it in….
So it takes 6 months of more to get your rebate check and Apple is enjoying the interest on your money (plus pumping up quarterly sales numbers with accounting tricks)….then you have to take the time to go to your bank to deposit the check…

This means something cool is coming out 2-3 weeks after this is over. (Two weeks is how long Apple gives you to return your purchase if something is released.) Remember when the nano came out? That was three weeks after this event ended last year.

turtlejp, you have it all wrong. the prices on iPods are reduced when you arebuing through the education store. the iPOd Nano is free because it is $179 and not $199.
