  1. Geez…if it takes that many steps to delete a shortcut, how many steps to get rid of an actual program (not to mention spyware and popup programs)?

This is going to be incredibly annoying for the majority of users…and incredibly lucrative for the Windows gurus who can charge $50/hour to remove unwanted icons from the Windows desktop…

  2. Ahhh, my friends the world is full of lemmings, lets call them followers. Just the same way that M$ are followers.

This is not a problem for a doze user. they expect this, they want this, because computing is supposed to be the same as battle stations on the starship enterprise.

The old paradigm is going to take an eon to change for the average user. They just don’t want to know. It is all too hard. They have accepted that it is supposed to be that way and they don’t want to be shown an easier way, because it will mean that they have been idiots.

NOBODY want to be seen as an idiot, so they will feign ignorance of anything other than Windoze. It is a sad world we live in.

    Leo

  3. Oh come on. The first step was not really a step – it was just showing that we have a shortcut that needs to be deleted. So there – it only takes 6 steps. See, Vista is getting better already!!! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  4. Anyone stop to think that the shortcut being deleted is the user response form to submit bugs? MS put up road blocks to make it hard to delete it so people would submit bugs.

Repeat this with a user-created shortcut and lets see what happens.

  5. I rented the movie Brazil over the weekend. Haven’t seen it since it was originally released on VHS.

If you’ve seen the movie, you can see the similarities between Vista and the extreme bureaucratic redundancies portrayed in the movie.

Perhaps M$ needs a “ghost in the machine” to shake things up.

  6. The truth is that the “average” Windows user doesn’t think that it’s the computer that is causing them headaches. They think it’s their own ignorance. They honestly believe that they aren’t computer savy enough. So when presented with the Mac alternative they assume that they will have the same issues as they do with their current computer. Because it’s them not the machine that is the problem. I always find it interesting how savy these same people are once they discover the Mac.
