Several job listings have appeared on Monster.com this morning for positions in an Apple Retail Store slated for the ABQ Uptown “shopping destination” that’s under development in Albuquerque, New Mexico. (Note: “ABQ” is the code for the city’s airport and also a colloquialism for the city.) Albuquerque straddles the Rio Grande and is the largest city in the state of New Mexico. The city proper had a total population of 448,607 (as of the 2000 census) and metropolitan area has a population of approximately 715,000 and includes the city of Rio Rancho, the third-largest and fastest-growing city in New Mexico and one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.
Apple currently does not have any retail stores in the state of New Mexico.
Monster.com lists “ABQ Uptown” in the Apple Retail Store job descriptions here.
ABQ Uptown includes residential units (rental/for sale), office space, retail, hotel, restaurants and entertainment venues in a high-density urban context. The first phase retail component currently under construction. ABQ Uptown’s online store directory does not yet list Apple Computer. And Apple’s own Retail Store pages make no mention of an Albuquerque location… yet. A search of Apple’s online Job openings likewise shows nothing regarding retail store positions in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
You can watch ABQ Uptown’s construction progress via live webcam here.

[UPDATE: 12:52pm EDT: Pulled the “as-yet-unannounced” phrase as even we couldn’t understand it after looking at it more closely. But, you know what we meant.]

New mexico has mexicans, that are worried about being deported, they dont have the time or the money for ipods. Obviously they dont even own a computer, how are they suppose to mess with mp3s ?
Finally Bugs Bunny will be able to go to an Apple store.
“New mexico has mexicans, that are worried about being deported, they dont have the time or the money for ipods. Obviously they dont even own a computer, how are they suppose to mess with mp3s ?”
Racist much?
Albuquerque before Berlin!
Oh well.
“Finally Bugs Bunny will be able to go to an Apple store.”
Forget Bugs, I’LL be able to go!!! I’m going to try to get a part time job there just for the discount!
Several months ago someone named “Albuquerque Deep Throat” said that there was an Apple Store coming to the ABQ Uptown plaza. He nailed it.
i happened to talk to an apple employee last week here in abq and he told me that the store was under construction in the uptown area.
Albuquerque before Belen, don’t you mean? ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
Ndelc – I would trade you one of our Apple Stores (we have 2 here in Denver) for one of your Trader Joe’s stores. We can’t get them here.
Whoa. Huge scoop. LOL
as-yet-unannounced???
Macromancer, thanks for the funniest thing I’ve read today! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”LOL” style=”border:0;” />
I’m just waiting for Norfolk. Rumored to be in June but I haven’t seen anything in the walled off areas yet.
Story: “New mexico has mexicans, that are worried about being deported, they dont have the time or the money for ipods. Obviously they dont even own a computer, how are they suppose to mess with mp3s ?”

Did you meet up in a dark, underground parking garage?
if kennedy were alive today: “ich bin ein belener”!
Thanks Lord. I didn’t know if anyone would get it. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”tongue wink” style=”border:0;” />
Yes! As a longtime mac user 1987
and navite New Mexican – not Mexican you dolt- I am thrilled. Every time I take a trip that includes a city with an Apple store you will find me there.
New Mexico has lots of Mac Users – big MUG in Santa Fe and home of Robin
Williams who has written lots of great mac books
Did you meet up in a dark, underground parking garage?
Actually found out from a neighbor who works for the architect firm that designed ABQ Uptown, while taking the kids trick or treating last Halloween, no less! Back to lurking mode…
This is hardly an “exclusive.” It has been reported on macrumors, ifoAppleStore, and thinksecret for over a week.
“Ndelc – I would trade you one of our Apple Stores (we have 2 here in Denver) for one of your Trader Joe’s stores. We can’t get them here.”
You have a deal Jimbo. We’re getting another Trader Joe’s on the west side. It’s yours for another Apple Store!
Actually I’m surprised it’s taken them this long considering this part of New Mexico is referred to as “Silicon Mesa”. We have a huge Intel plant in Rio Rancho, and a big AOL call center, Philips has a large facility, and Los Alamos Labs is just 70 miles north of here. We’re not far from the future SpacePort either!
Not to mention Sandia National Lab, home to the world’s #5 and #6 fastest supercomputers…
I’ve been watching that development go up for quite a while now and have always said that would be agreat place for an Apple Store.
Just 60 miles to the store hot damn
A combo Apple/Trader Joes’s store… an idea just waiting to explode across the American landscape!
