“Multicore processing allows control over many applications running on a single PC. AMD says 85 percent of PC users run six applications at once: antivirus, e-mail, firewall, spam protection, a pop-up blocker and spyware [protection/detection],” Ben Ames reports for IDG News Service.

MacDailyNews Take: AMD says 85 percent of PC users run six applications at once: antivirus, e-mail, firewall, spam protection, a pop-up blocker and spyware. Sheesh, that’s so pathetically stupid. Can you imagine?! It’s no wonder Apple has such a difficult time convincing the masses to Think Different™; most of the poor fools obviously aren’t capable of thinking at all.
Macintosh. Because life’s too short.

to do otherwise would be foolish on a PC
Damn it!
What an exaggeration!
Most people don’t use an email app.
you would have to be not thinking at all to not run those programs on a PC. I don’t get what this has to do with being pathetically stupid. On a PC, this is logical.
Also, I run many programs at the same time, usually more than six. Whoopde freading da!
Yes, but anti virus, spyware, spam protection and pop-up block programs are some of my favourite programs!
OMG that’s pathetic. What waste of raw processor power. If I were an AMD engineer, I would be ticked off.
Imagine trying to carry on a normal conversation while wielding five swords at oncoming attackers.

It’s pathetic because it IS imperative. Obviously MDN would like to convey that there are alternatives to going through such agony.

I’d like to see the benchmark comparisons between XP and OS X with XP running it’s six apps at once and OS X running only Mail since the others aren’t needed on Macs.

More FUD from MacDailyNews
ah, the killer apps that don’t exist on a Mac.. OF COURSE… they’ll never switch..
Okay.. now running Photobooth to stop the whine in my new Macbook pro (and having it hidden) uses 2% of CPU power pales in comparison with the other stuff that I need to run on the PC side.
I currently have nine programs running (Mail, Safari, iTunes, Photoshop CS2, InDesign CS2, Illustrator CS2, GoLive CS2, Acrobat 7 Pro, and Pages) and none of them are security or malware related. That is an excellent example of the difference between Macs and PCs. On a Mac you work on work, on a PC you work at keeping the computer running.
And, yes, I have the Firewall on but I don’t count it as an app because it’s part of the OS.
As we speak I’m running 14 Apps. None of them an antivirus, firewall, spam protection, a pop-up blocker nor a spyware. And still feel safe. Gotta love the Mac.
I admit it: there’s something a little disconcerting when spysweeper occasionally pops up and tells me that I’m now guarded against 114,496 traces.
Where is the web browser in all that?
I am currently running 9 apps on my mac. These include pro apps like Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat. No need for crappy utilities that slow me down.
Poor garufo, reading is so hard for you!
“Ben Ames reports for IDG News Service”.
Now, how the heck is MDN responsible for what another person is reporting?
Nice try, NOT!
Magic word “filled”, as in “garufo is filled with anger”
I have about 30 apps running right now on XP.
Without skipping a beat…
My MaK-N-TrAsh on tHe Oder HaNd, craters when I open all of the CS2 Apps…
SuCkS.
Geez, what a waste of CPU cycles…
I’m currently running:
Dashboard; Mail, Safari; QTPlayer; iTunes; iNotePad; Pages; TextEdit; Preview; GraphicConverter; FolderIconMakerX; Calculator; Audacity.
