  1. there’s also a Front Row update but it does NOT include the functionality to make the iPod Remote’s “menu” button work on the iPod. (obviously, that would take an iPod update to do, but I just wanted to point out the ass-hat way Apple designed that one.)

  2. All software apps, suites, etc…..have bugs and security issues no matter what anyone says!

So far Apple has been lucky and no one has targeted the Mac platform yet. For the most part they are secure and the bugs aren’t known until they are fixed, but not all the time.

Time will tell…..its been what 5 years and OS X is still free of that stuff, but its around the corner for them to start getting targeted.

I hope not though let the hackers and stuff hit Microsoft! They deserve it!

  3. Why is the standard that Mac OS is better than Windows OS.

Shouldn’t the standard be that Mac’s OS should be as good as it could be?

It’s not, and that’s the rub. I don’t care how bad Windows is. I do care how good Mac OS should be. And, it could be and should be better. Much better, than it is.

Well since you know so much about developing complex, state-of-the-art operating systems Johnny, why don’t you engineer and market your own? Or are you just talking shit?

  5. QT Pro – OK

I updated to 7.1 and my QT Pro licence is still intact. I think you would have to worry about losing your licence key if you were to upgrade to QT 8, for example. Otherwise, don’t worry.

  6. Hopefully 7.1 returns QuickTime’s playback speed to that of 6.5. I have been sorely disappointed in QuickTime 7’s playback. It seems to be isolated to very large files (ie. greater than 50-100 MB). With QuickTime 6.5, very large MPEG’s played flawlessly on my Cube (even in full screen). With 7.0, I get 1-2 frames per second – totally unacceptable! I hope 7.1 fixes this.

  7. Johnny, that’s slag for a condom where I come from. You must be young, dumb and full of come.

Idiot. OS X is getting better with each release. It’s a constant work in progress.

So MacDude, I mean Johnny, what are your ideas for computing nirvana? Hello? Anyone there?

MW: bed. Johnny has been sent to bed with no supper for using Daddy’s computer.

  8. Johnny Troll said: What the hell? Everybody has been insisting nothing like this can happen on a Mac.
Nobody with any sense said Macs lack bugs or potential security vulnerabilities, the claim was/is that no one has been able to take full advantage of any such vulnerability – other than with the help of the user. Just because there are flaws does not mean they’ve been exploited – yet. And we’d be just as happy to keep it that way, thank you very much. We are partly protected from vulnerabilities in the apps by protections built into the OS.

    SunRA, et al,
You need to learn to read those warnings that pop up. That one said that if you had a pre-version 7 QTPro license and upgraded to version 7 of QT you would need to buy a new license. That would suggest your v.7.0.4 would be unaffected.

MWD: Just noticed a new ad below the input box. The last one was quite tempting but required a more advanced version of IE than will run on a Mac to take advantage of it.

  9. ARGH! After updating QT and the security patch, iTunes has lost all path information to every song in my library. I keep my music on an external drive, which could account for the bug, but it’s a bug nonetheless.
