Look for it on Amazon or eBay before you go anywhere else. I got it at Amazon for $500 several months ago from a retailer that was dumping a few compies that they had left.

Edgar: Well that’s an interesting point you make. But yes, even more more so than naming a computer after a piece of fruit. Logic and music are processed in opposite hemispheres of the brain, so it seems even more disparate. imho
Well, Apple didn’t name it, they just bought Emagic, the company that made Logic. Since it was already such a widely-used tool (second only to Pro Tools, I believe) they probably kept the name for that “Reason”. (no pun intended)
Also, try having a look on eBay, etc. – sometimes there’s some great deals. If you’re a student, you can also get it direct from the Apple store for half-price.
It’s a quite astonishing piece of software, btw – worth every penny.
wonderboy: Methinks you are a victim of the common misconception that music is purely a “right-brained” activity (the left- and right-brain stuff is mostly oversimplistic nonsense anyways), when in fact there is tremendous logical machinery underlying just about every musical task. Try blowing through some bebop changes, or realizing an orchestral score at the piano, or composing a baroque fugue, and tell me again just how absent logic is from the process of composing, arranging or performing music.
