The Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN), on March 22, indicated that Quanta Computer was added as one of Apple’s video iPod contract manufacturers (see related article: Quanta secures Apple contract for ‘video iPod devices’). Today, the Chinese-language Commercial Times reported that the order has been shifted to an unspecified EMS provider, according to a brief report from DigiTimes.

Probably found a cheaper sweatchop. Ain’t capitalism grand?
Oh wait, its communist China. Worker’s paradise indeed.
No, probably found a supplier that wouldn’t blab.
loose lips sink ships
or in this case lose orders from apple.
Portalplayer is also out of a job.
Hmmm, wonder who got the combined order?
Guys Quanta is in Taiwan (and presumably the new source will be as well). Big difference, China was just the source of the story. So cool down the “red commie” rhetoric.
They probably found someone who can make the touchscreen work.
Thought only Vista had these kind of delays. When trouble runs amok with Steve’s next big thing, look for the stock to plummet and a scramble at Apple that may put their plans for that big new campus on the shelf.
That’s what you get when you abandon your core customers who want a better OS and more reasonably priced machines.
To hell with iPod.
“Report: Apple withdraws Quanta video iPod order, shifts to unspecified vendor”
HOLY JEEZUM CROW! Sounds like a change in defcon status is in order. Better lock down the mountain too. Someone get Rummy on the sat phone. He’s playing footsie with Condie in Baghdad. But we might want to want until this story is Quanta-fied first?
Damn Trolls!!
Fsck “Hmmmmm…”. Go get a life.
Hmm, I’m thinking the iPods need refreshing soon. Will Apple really leave the current offerings alone till August?
This doesn’t make sense since I’ve seen both the 2 gig nano and the 60 gig pod on sale at Costco. Seems that they are clearing channel before releasing a new product.
iPod’s birthday is the 28th. There’s been no media event announced which is unusual if a new product will be released.
I could do with a new Pod but I’m waiting to see what new is going to come out.
“Want to wait,” that is. I’m going to lose (but not loose) my proofreader’s license.
“look for the stock to plummet”
Isn’t that also called a buying opportunity?
It’s half full, right?
“When trouble runs amok with Steve’s next big thing, look for the stock to plummet and a scramble at Apple that may put their plans for that big new campus on the shelf.”
No, that happens when you announce products that you can’t ship. Apple doesn’t typically do that, ala M$
Neil – the iTMS’s birthday is the 28th, not the iPod. It’s birthday is in October. But yeah, we could use something new. Too bad they can’t find a way to squeeze Seagate’s new 750GB drive into something.
Yeeehheeesss! It’s Synaptics.
“Seagate’s new 750GB drive”
Then you could load all but four of the versions of the song, “Yesterday” onto it. Sorry, Don Ho.
Tiger’s birthday is also the 28th of this month – released last April on the 28th. Best OS ever! Until Leopard that is.
Does this mean that Tiger is no longer a cub? <sniff> It’s all grown up!
Unlike Vista the release of iPod AV has not been announced.
SJ was always getting caned for announcing stuff and then not shipping it the next day.
Reports have declared problems with AV manufacture – again SJ gets bad press if there are quality/reliability issues with new products.
Bottom line – just be patient. ( and only by version 1 of anything if you can’t live without it for the next 6 months after first release)
i work for quanta in the u.s., in nashville actually, but all we do is handle gateway notebook computer repairs and refurbs. makes me happy more and more each and everyday that i own a powerbook.
Quanta is in Taiwan.
If you actually read about the WORLD instead of accept the propoganda forced down your throat, you would know that Taiwan is NOT communist and China and Taiwan HATE eachother.
Also your point is JUST trolling, because in the end most SWEATSHOPS in Asia are in capitalist countries and it was Apple that made the decision to switch – I hardly think Quanta said take your business elsewhere.
In the end most “ists” have their flaws and it is ALWAYS the poor and disadvantaged that suffer in both. In capitalism it’s their fault they are poor, in commumism it is their privilage to be poor – like everyone else ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
For the people at the top of all these ism states – life is good.
Life is good! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
