Apple to debut MacBook Pro 17-inch 2.33GHz Intel Core Duo as early as Sunday?

“The 2006 NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) conference is fast approaching and as any self-respectiing maclot knows, it can only mean one thing: new pro products. The Register is reporting that the new 17″ MacBook Pro could debut as early as this Sunday and sport the 2.16GHz Core Duo with an outside chance of the new 2.33GHz Intel Core Duo making an appearance. Oddly enough, with the exception of the processor speed and screen size, all internals of the 17″ should remain the same as the 15″ MacBook Pro,” Jeff Smykil reports for Ars Technica.

RUMOR: Apple to debut MacBook Pro 17-inch at NAB convention next week – April 19, 2006

  1. Yeah, who cares all that much about the 17″ Macbook Pro, and the Power Mac is going to be last. The thing to look forward to is the “Macbook” and maybe with colors. College kids will snatch that up really fast.

  2. If this is true then I will be switching as soon as Apple UK has them available!

Bugger the 12″ they are for kids. 17″ and I can edit on the road er in the hotel room. Just make sure it has a tasty graphics card that can run at full speed.

    Bootcamp for Lightwave and combustion.

    One happy switcher……

Just get on with it Apple.

  3. I want a Quad MacBook Pro 17″ – there is plenty of room for two dual-core processors. I guess it comes down to power (battery life), heat and price – not engineering.

Oh, and a dual-layer optical drive.

  4. “There’s no use in buying a 17″ Mac Book Pro if Apple hobbles the poor thing to keep the heat down.”

As the owner of MacBook Pro I was disturbed to read this as well. The graphic performance is tough enough for a laptop without putting a governor on performance. The book does get hot. I wonder how much hotter it would get with a fully clocked gpu?

  5. Good, but with the larger foot print, will Apple be able to let the graphics processor run at top speed??? With the larger case, the added heat dissipation with the un-hobbled graphics processor, should be manageable….???? If so, then there will be an improvements in graphics over the other MacBook Pro.

  6. Man… I hope they at LEAST find a way to make a Dual-Layer SuperDrive fit in it. I want a new 17″ BAD… especially since the 15″ ones have already hit the Apple Store Refurb section. It’s all I can do to keep from ordering one of those for $400 off retail. Oh well, guess we’ll see Sunday!!!
