Take a virtual tour of Microsoft’s Macintosh lab (MacBU)

“I’m going to write a little bit more about what I do to help MacBU ship great software and provide some color around what’s it’s like to work on Mac software at Microsoft. Often when we have press events or special visits from our MVPs I’ll give them a tour of the Mac Lab and explain what we do. They’ve always found it very interesting and so I thought I’d share a virtual tour of our Mac Lab,” David Weiss blogs. Weiss is a Software Design Engineer for Microsoft.

Take the tour here.

  1. Without Office:mac, you can be sure Apple’s market share would be even lower…

THAT’s a TOTAL CROCK OF SHIITES!!!

If MIcrosoft dropped OfficeMac, Apple would come out with something so much better that would be adopted almost immediatly by both platforms.

Now that Virtual PC is not needed anymore Apple might just be sending the Microsoft MBU to the unemployment line.

There is no need for Apple to keep the VPC for OfficeMac deal going any longer.

  2. is it just me, or does the whole place feel a little “cramped”?

    It’s you.

As a software developer, I can tell you the MacBU looks more or less like a lot of software development labs I have worked in – except that it has lots of Macs! Realize too that the coders are probably tucked away in a cube farm – these pictures were the testing lab.

A great feature! You owe it to yourself to at least go and look at the pictures.

    Thanks MDN for sharing this!

  3. They deserve alot of credit. I use Office for Mac at home and PC Office at work. I believe it when I’ve heard that the Mac version is considered to be more refined than the Doze version.

  4. Come to think of it, what does the MacBU actually do anymore?!? The only Mac software they produce anymore is Office. IE, Outlook Express, Virtual PC, etc, have all gone by the boards over the past few years. Hell, at the rate things are going, even Office probably won’t be necessary 4-5 years from now.
