Take a virtual tour of Microsoft’s Macintosh lab (MacBU)

“I’m going to write a little bit more about what I do to help MacBU ship great software and provide some color around what’s it’s like to work on Mac software at Microsoft. Often when we have press events or special visits from our MVPs I’ll give them a tour of the Mac Lab and explain what we do. They’ve always found it very interesting and so I thought I’d share a virtual tour of our Mac Lab,” David Weiss blogs. Weiss is a Software Design Engineer for Microsoft.

Take the tour here.

  1. Microsoft is the biggest Apple developer, and has played a huge role in the history of the Mac. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint all started life as Mac-only applications. There were many people who bought early Macs in the 80s just so they could get Excel and those funky graphs that Lotus 1-2-3 couldn’t do.

the Mac BU at Microsoft is one of the things they are really doing right these days.

  2. Guys, save the childish comments about Microsoft and read the article. The MacBU are clearly some of the biggest Mac fans you could come across. They also write one of the best pieces of software you can get for the Mac. Pages is a toy by comparison. Without Office:mac, you can be sure Apple’s market share would be even lower…

  3. I don’t know — is it just me, or does the whole place feel a little “cramped” for one of the biggest companies in the world and a division that actually makes money? I mean, some taller ceilings, maybe? A little more elbow room?

    God, I hate Microsoft.

  4. “Our main automation Xserve has a habit of failing in some serious way once a year, always around Christmas time.”

Cool tour but no lab rats?

  5. With all those Macs lying around…. and Microsoft is so dumb, they took years to try to make a copy of Mac OS X, a.k.a Vista. And it’s not ready yet. Just makes me laugh.

But serious now, MacBU is great! Keep up the good work.

Oh, and free drinks… that’s awesome!
