QUAKE 4 Universal application for Apple Mac OS X now shipping

Aspyr Media, Inc. announced today that it has begun shipping QUAKE 4, a Mac OS X Universal application, developed by Raven Software and produced by id Software, for Macintosh. QUAKE 4 will run natively on both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macintosh computers.

The long-awaited sequel to QUAKE II, QUAKE 4 enlists gamers in the role of Matthew Kane, a member of the legendary Rhino Squad, to penetrate deep into the heart of the Strogg war machine and engage in a series of heroic missions to destroy the barbaric alien race. QUAKE 4 begins only moments after the events of QUAKE II, with the Earth’s fleet launching a massive offensive to the planet Stroggos. As Matthew Kane, gamers invade the alien stronghold, fighting alone, along side other Marines, and in mechanized walkers and hover tanks as they encounter the Strogg and their disturbing amalgamations of man and machine. Built on id Software’s revolutionary DOOM 3 technology, QUAKE 4 also features fast-paced multiplayer competition modeled after the speed, style and feel of QUAKE III Arena.

The game is rated “M” for “Mature” by the ESRB. QUAKE 4 is available now for $49.99 through Aspyr’s Website, http://www.aspyr.com/games.php/mac/quake4/

  1. Where would the USA be today if the settlers had played dominoes and card games instead of working? —- Games! it’s really amazing that so much time and energy is wasted on games.

    Half-Life 2, get a life. Wot a Larf.

  2. I have been playing Quake 4 since yesterday when it arrived.

It’s a good game, it’s a lot like Doom3 but not as heavy on the graphics to slow my Nivida 6800 GT down like Doom3 did.

There is a few scary things, but nowhere near as bad or wearing as Doom3.

The bots are smarter, tend to keep out of your way better than other games which they fight alongside you.

About halfway into the game you get caught and turned into a Stroog, before the neural implants. You can move faster, have more health etc.

This game will not cripple your machine, if you can run UT2004 well, then it’s no problem, unlike Doom3 that really pushed the hardware.

UT2004 gets a heck of a lot more time than Doom3 or Quake4 will ever get, because there are thousands of maps, mods etc. online that you can explore and play in. Also there are more than just one game in UT2004 and you can play online.

Quake4 is a good first person, shoot em up, complete the missions type game, it’s worth the price for a few days of enjoyment.

Recommend a G4 or G5 with a above stock video card. I also think this will play decently on a iMacTel.

    Best regards and happy fragging.

  3. Enjoying a game is alot better than being a prune uptight.

U.S. workers productivity surged year after year during the last decade, even in the face of two recessions.

The gaming industry also exploded the last decade also, eclipsing the movie industry just recently. The average gamer is between 18-30 years old.

Is there a link? Not quite directly, but the people that helped bring information technology as one of the major productivity engines for the U.S. economies certainly enjoy some R&R, don’t they? LAN parties are enormously popular among corporate staffs.

So you prune asses stuck in the stone age should probably think twice before questioning someone’s value of time.

Replace game with loser. Prunes are good for the bowels.

  5. You sound like one of the types that preferred horse carriages when cars were first introduced. Or the basic typewriter before electronic keyboards. Or music from your ancient era instead of current hits.

You have no idea of what new age ideals are. Progress is unavoidable. Live in your cave with your ancient prejudices like an old fart made fun of by little kids, and people like you will be long be forgotten.

  6. What’s the matter, did I get one of them right? Let me guess, you tried your best to sell the old “extended warranty” to make gross?

You’re obviously not in any type of sensible business practice. And quit pretending that you are.
If you were, you’d realize the gaming industry is quite huge, growing year after year, and profitable for all segments. What do we have here? Ron, the throwback to 1984 who thinks games are nothing more than NES cartridge time-wasters for little kids.

2006 is a different era than 1984 Ron… you might wanna get out your cave a little bit. Gamers are primarily composed of people in their 20’s and 30’s, many of which lead successful lives (did you know Tom Clancy is an avid gamer?) The games created these days are aimed for mature audiences….not the childish “cute” Super Mario Bros. type of 1984.

It’s too bad you missed that boat, Ron. Then again its never too late.

Yeah, today they’re ultra-realistic murder and sadism simulators. And they require a tremendous commitment of time, effort and attention to complete. Progress!!

Guys in their 20s and 30s should be spending their time in the, you know, REAL world, making REAL things happen, instead of winning a bunch of contrived, pointless and empty victories in a game.

Nobody cares that you made it through Princess Inktana’s dungeon or acquired a level-ten plasma gun. If you have a driver’s license, you ought to be out making some sort of impact in your real life, before it’s over. You can spend 5 months grinding through a game, but when it’s over you’re left exactly where you started. You learned nothing, you accomplished nothing, and there is no way you can argue that you did anything with that time other than completely waste it. It’s sad that you find reality so boring that you need to constantly escape from it, but hey, maybe some people are so useless that’s the best they’ve got.

I used to play tons of games when I was a kid. I couldn’t wait to get home from school and play the latest game. Then I grew out of them. I got a driver’s license. And I got a computer. After that, winning meaningless victories inside a video game world seemed very, very empty.

Maybe that’s why our generation is so fucking distracted and useless that we managed to get our opportunites stolen and are being systematically murdered by our own government while we do nothing about it. Oh well. Time to play Doom!

The great fascists of history would have loved to have their people this veged-out.

  9. >You’re obviously not in any type of sensible business practice. And quit pretending that you are. >

Oh, Sammy, Sammy, Sammy. I’m retired with enough to last me and you ten lifetimes.

MW – boy, as in grow up boy.
