  1. TODAY is the test…low budget Made for TV movies will sell in low volumes. Perfect for ironing out any issues.

Had Apple announced a Netflix catalog of first run movies, any issues with their delivery system could jepardize the entire project. This is a smart move by Apple.

…on the other hand…I am ready for some real movies!

  2. Memorable quotes from “High School Musical”:

Martha Cox: Hip hop is my passion! I love to pop, and lock, and jam, and break!
Brainiac #1: Is that even legal?!?
    Brainiacs: Not another peep!
Martha Cox: It’s just dancing. Sometimes I think it’s better than homework.
    –––––––––
Sharpay: We need to save our show from people who don’t know the difference between a Tony Award and Tony Hawk.
    –––––––––
Gabrilla Montez: When I’m singing with you, I just feel like…a girl.
Troy Bolton: You even look like one, too.
    –––––––––
Chad: I smell a rat named Darbus.
    –––––––––

And I smell an Emmy. Just brilliant.

  3. this is pretty big ….

my 8 year old daughter really wants this, and I would buy any format that is the first release (and i know there are many others out there)

itunes has the first release !

    major success for apple

    i predict a lot of dl’s

  4. This has to be some kind of priviledges issue because there is no links what so ever from the iTunes Music store homepage or from TV shows or Short films… The only way to get to this page is from the link above…

  5. Well the price is OK. Hopefully they make it cheaper than a DVD for lower quality, not like the supid expensive UMDs for the PSP – which can’t even be played on another device (At least the Apple Store ones can be played on a Mac, PC, an iPod, and a TV – with the right bits of wire)

  6. Funny how some people debate the price (give or take a dollar) or the titles of the current offerings having no clue that what they are witnessing is the birth of the most significant change in popular entertainment since the invention of television. It takes time to get all the pieces in place, time to turn such a big ship around; but that’s what Steve & Co. are working on without a doubt.

  7. What? No special media event to announce this along with the “High School Musical HiFi,” a huge white box the size of a 15″ TV but with a perfect 2″ screen, ideal for watching the movie and for true videophiles? Steve Jobs said he was going to replace his home theater system and everything!

  8. It’s funny how so many of you flamed the idea of downloadable movies when you heard that Amazon was in talks to try to offer this. You cried about poor quality and long download times. But now that Apple is offering it, it’s supposedly the greatest idea ever. Weird.

  9. Jeff,
I bought the cable from Apple that connects the ipod to a TV with AV inputs…yellow, red and white…And I took the ipod to show it to a family I know…We watched an entire episode of Monk on a 27 inch TV…it looked fine…like a slightly soft VHS copy but VERY watchable…They loved it..
Then I switched to music, routed the TV sound through their stereo and played that…It sounded great…no problems at all.

  10. Cool! This is the beginning (finally) of their Movie download service!!

My wife wants this movie, she’ll be thrilled when I start playing it on the 20″ iMac to her surprise! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

    Go Apple/iTunes/Mac/Disney!!!!!

  11. pr,
There’s the catch. I need to either hook an ipod up to my tv or a laptop. Why can’t I just burn it to a dvd. I don’t want my kids messing with my laptop or ipod, but I don’t mind them messing with a burned dvd. and another thing, my ipod won’t play video.

Thanks, but until their videos work the way I want, I’ll stick with DVD’s.

  12. Not trying to put a FOOT in anyones mouth, but Jeff, Apple gives you lots of options for video playback – Any computer (Win or Mac) running iTunes…hook a laptop or computer to a TV as a second monitor…put it on a Video iPod and hook that to the TV…even the Mac mini is absically a $599 iPod expressly for your TV.

If Apple insists on burning movies to DVD then the studios won’t play ball. You have lots of options, just select one because the burning to DVD thing isn’t going to happen.
