The sole exception was at E3–the annual video game industry blowout in L.A., where there were a number of iMacs.”

True, but they provide iMacs and eMacs. Walking into a pressroom full of MacBook Pros would be sweet indeed.
Regarding SXSW: The conference also offers up a couple of Torrents with over three gigs of free indie MP3s, as well as iPod compatible event schedules and some film clips. It’s part of their promo effort. On the music side that amounts to close to 1000 free tracks. It’s mosty Rock, but there are quite a few good tracks and a smattering of other genres as well.
