NEW YORK, March 8 — COMEDY CENTRAL’s Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and the hit series “The Colbert Report” are now available on the iTunes Music Store (http://www.itunes.com). Fans can now purchase these critically acclaimed late-night series for $1.99 per episode or can choose the new “Multi-Pass” feature on iTunes allowing fans to buy the next month’s worth of 16 new episodes for just $9.99.

“We are excited that ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘The Colbert Report’ are now available to download on the iTunes Music Store,” said Michele Ganeless, executive vice president and general manager, COMEDY CENTRAL. “Fans of the most trusted names in fake news can now take Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert with them everywhere they go.”

“We’re thrilled to offer ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘The Colbert Report’ on iTunes,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “Our newest feature ‘Multi-Pass’ gives fans the ability to purchase a block of 16 episodes of these hit programs during the current season and have them delivered automatically to their computer after they air on TV.”

The new “Multi-Pass” feature on iTunes is now available for these COMEDY CENTRAL hits. Purchasers of “Multi-Pass” have access to the next 16 new episodes of “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report.” Repeat shows will not be included in the 16 consecutive episodes purchased. 1. Denny Crane ROCKS!

James, take a chill pill bra. Free speech is great, but swearing just to swear is lame, and childish. And you might want to check into some anger management classes too. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

Anyway…. I just cannot take the compression on the video from iTMS… when you throw it up on a 97″ projection screen, it is just too pixelated. Heck, even on a 22″ CRT it is blocky and hard to watch.

Once the quality gets better, I will be spending all the sweet moo-la uncle Rico and I made on iTMS videos… until them… IIRC, Acquisition, and good old fashioned DVR will have to do. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

    The Dude abides.

  2. This Multi-pass seems like a test program for a subscription based service. If people are willing to pay $9.95 for 16 episodes, that’s a savings of $1.37 per episode. 63¢ for an episode os great if you were going to purchase them anyway.

Better yet, $19.95 per month for an ALL ACCESS Pass would the next step. If people are willing to pay $10 for 16 episodes, they would definitely pay $20 for the ability to unlock the whole store. Now Apple would need to put a cap on the number of downloads per month for ALL ACCESS subscribers. Something like 24 episodes of any TV shows, and 100 songs per month.

Any takers for an ALL ACCESS Pass?

  3. I see this as more of a bulk purchase discount rather than a subscription. You still “own” the video but now you can have them purchased conveniently.

You don’t have to visit the store each day to buy the previous show.

Calling it a “subscription” is misleading.

  4. CitizenX: It’s a “subscription” in the sense of a magazine subscription, not a subscription to a service.

I think this is an awesome idea and needs to be applied to seasons of new shows. If you gave people a discount for pre-buying the whole season, sales would skyrocket.

  5. I’m not surprised that these shows are amongst the first to be available in this way. They’re incredibly popular online, plus they’re on daily, people are really unlikely to pay “full price” for them when there are so many more of them and they’re topical and thus not as likely to be viewed multiple times.
