“Lehman Bros. analyst Harry Blount said the new products Apple Computer is expected to unveil at a media event scheduled in Cupertino, Calif. later Tuesday could include a Mac Mini targeting the living room, new accessories for the iPod, a game box and a new Intel-based PC. Blount reiterated his equal weight rating on Apple’s stock, and his $80 price target, but said the new products may act as a near-term upside catalyst,” Tomi Kilgore writes for MarketWatch.

A game box?? Where do these analysts get this… They obviously are scouring these boards…
I posted several times (as a joke) that Apple will be debuting a gaming console… Low and behold, mr smarty pants analyst is now predicting a “game box.”
idiots!
Pod Box 360? Don’t think so.
Whatever it is, I’m partyin’ today!!!!
You know what the game box is? It’s a Mac mini that can boot Windows games within OS X. That’s Apple’s game box, and it works with your HD TV.
btw, I hope one version of the Mini comes with wireless keyboard and mighty mouse (which would also be a new product) standard.
My last way-out-there prediction: Apple is 100% guaranteed to sell some product today.
i’m holding out for an iPDA…
His assessment is not that far out there. Think about it, the easiest way for Apple to counter the Micrsoft Xbox/Media Center combo is to not come out with a “Game console” at all, but build it all into the mini. Put in the DVR functionality, wireless controllers along with keyboard and mouse and you’re all set. Front Row is your interface…all games could be stored on the HD and can be purchased via iTunes along with your music, podcasts, TV shows and Motion Pictures. I know, i’m dreaming but it makes sense. The only problem is getting the developers on board for ANOTHER gaming platform.
I would still like the iMac shape/style plasma HD TV with built-in core duo Mac, WiFi for streaming movies (Burst suit is quiet, so suit may be resolved and silence is part of the agreement) & internet access, iSight (i.e. Front Row) for full screen walk around iChat and ultimate teenager games (girls dancing, boys shooting) plus being HD ready for connection to the HiFi or a new video Airport Express.
Apple seem to be putting iSight into everything, so it must be for a reason. Maybe because (like SJ said about music) it is universal across all cultures.
A game box? First time I read about that from a “serious” source if analysts can be called that. Where did he get that info from?
The great return of the Pippin ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

I just noticed Apple applied for a European trademark (http://oami.eu.int/en/default.htm) for the name MacBook on Feb. 23 2006, only 5 days ago! Would this mean we see the new iBooks today ??
Matt, you’ve got a point. But it won’t be “another gaming platform” at all. It’s MacOSX. If this prediction comes true, I imagine there’ll be 1 or more icons added to Front Row. One of which being “Games”. Front Row would automatically show you a list of games on the HD (presumably stored in /Applications/Games). It would be the same as playing games on your Mac except it’s displayed on your TV. No new games needed. This sure sounds exciting.
pulled that one right out didn’t they. Why would Apple enter into a market that didn’t even make Microsoft money. they JUST recently became profitable.
Another analyst, another stab in the dark. Have we covered all the possibilities yet?
He got that info from reading posts here..
It was a joke… This is how rumors get started.
A dvr/pvr in a mac mini??? Not as long as Apple is in the business of selling video/tv content for a $1.99 from the iTMS…
One of the things that got lost in the OS 9 to OS X transition was game controller input. 3rd party stuff like USB overdrive came out to fill the gap, but the lack of a standard game control panel has hurt gaming on the Macintosh. Am Apple game controller with a pref panel and unified SDK would be a great boon for the Mac in the gaming market.
Not a rumor…
Not a prediction…
But it would be nice.
i think mac daily news is not making much money, they are putting advertisements under this text box now so we get annoyed while scrolling down to type the image verification.
i feel sad for , i guess this web site is going extinct also..
which might mean,, there arent enough mac users, so sales will probably be dissapointing. get rid of the apple stock before 1st quarter sales report
UMMM.
Good idea! Man you sure a smart! Thanks for the heads up!
Okay everyone, “Ummm” says we should sell our Apple stock!
I’m sure he knows what he’s talking about… I’m putting in my sell order now!
Thanks again Ummm!
Why not a partnership between Apple and Nintendo ?
no no not now, wait til it hits $73.16
Actually, the whole thing is just an Apple Mardi Gras party. There will be a parade along Infinite Loop after the presentation.
“Throw us something, Steve!”
On the “What Would Jobs Do?” contest on engadget.com, someone submitted a mockup of an Apple Game console. You can see the mockup here:

What time is the Press Announcement???
Harry Blount is a cretin who probably has never used a Mac.
UMMM… take it easy, you must be running a temperature…
