Apple to hold special media event tomorrow

A reminder that in an email sent last week to media outlets, Apple invited the media to visit Apple’s Cupertino, Calif., headquarters, Apple Town Hall, Building 4 at 10am PST/1pm EST next Tuesday, February 28 to “Come see some fun new products from Apple.” The invitation (shown at left) includes nothing more than an iCal image of a calendar with the date Feb. 28.

“Sam Bhavnani, an analyst at market researcher Current Analysis, said he thinks Apple may introduce a 17-inch MacBook Pro as well as a redesigned iBook with a 13-inch widescreen display,” Ina Fried reports for CNET News. “‘The reason to expect an iBook announcement is so that Apple is able to have sufficient quantities shipping in time for back to school,’ Bhavnani said in an e-mail interview. ‘The fact that Apple started shipping Intel products ahead of schedule means it is serious about winning ‘switchers,’ and key to getting Windows customers will be to have systems that cost significantly less than $2,000.’ Bhavnani said that an ideal iBook would arrive in time for the education buying season, cost $999, and include Intel’s Core Duo chip.”

  1. Valueclick is reporting earnings at after the bell today…
Here;s why i think the earnings will be a huge dissapointment.

#1: Google demonstrated advertising was declining in Q4 of 2005

#2: ValueClick does not have a search engine or anything as such to increase traffic.

#3: A new SF advertising agency was formed, seems to be a big threat to Google as well as ValueClick. The company is called ‘Adbrite’ (adbrite.com)

#4: Value click is currently valued at 1.86 billion. Google is 100bill which is like a 6:1 ratio, is ValueClick worth 1/6th of Google, probably not, especially since google is not worth 1/1 of its own value.

All these clues tell me 1 thing. If you own this stock you should not be holding it, it is headed straight down 10-20% after the earnings report.

It can also have a gravity effect on other stocks such as Google and Answers.Com and etc..

  2. Despite the unlikeliness of getting intel ibooks tomorrow, I still think that if they did announce them, that would kick more @ss than imaginable. I’d be trying to buy one, like, while they were giving the announcement.

MW: shitting. as in, I’m shitting my pants with excitment.

  3. “Bhavnani said that an ideal iBook would arrive in time for the education buying season, cost $999, and include Intel’s Core Duo chip.”

You don’t put $360 CPU’s in under $1,000 computers. In bulk quantities, Intel is selling the Core Duo chip for an estimated $360. Apple tries (and usually succeeds) to maintain a 25-30% margin on its products. A $360 chip and a $300 profit on a $1,000 computer leaves $340 for everything else- Superdrive, memory, graphics card, sound card, display, networking, keyboard, etc. A high quality LCD costs more than $340 as a replacement part.

  4. I’m not so sure we are getting computers tomorrow. The “fun new products” phrase doesn’t shout new MacBooks to me.

I think we’ll see software and maybe some hardware gadgets or iPod add-ons. Photo Booth was described as “fun” by Steve. We’ll know soon enough.

BTW, I played with a MacBook Pro yesterday at the local Apple Store and it was amazing. Fast and very well built. My 500 MHz. TiPB is looking very long in the tooth about now.

    Peace,

    Kevin

  5. Don’t expect EVERYTHING cool. This isn’t the last products Apple has coming this quarter. Expect SOMETHING cool.

Don’t freak if YOUR dream doesn’t come true, just watch the show ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”cool smirk” style=”border:0;” /> Your iBook or whatever will come along soon enough if it doesn’t come tomorrow.

  6. Dell currently has a 17in. E1705 Core Solo for $999 with the usual Dell coupons. Their site did not say anything about delayed shipping so I can’t be sure if it is available now. Though this does not have a graphic display card (integrated graphics) this is what the first MacBook will be competing against. Now is the time for Apple to bring out their MacBook and make it competitive for the educational market. These are interresting times.

  7. Definitely an Intel Mini with HDTV tuner DVR functionality AND an announcement of a Movies section on iTunes. A real coup would be Cablecard integration…

The combination of these completes Apple’s lineup of media devices and content offerings.

  8. To anybody Out There with a Core Duo or G5 iMac

Anybody notice that the Front Row Movie Trailer Server was down ALL
weekend. No it wasn’t my internet connection. My Road Runner (TW Cable) is just fine, thank you. The message says “The Movie Trailer Server is NOT responding.”
Maybe they are getting it ready for something tomorrow.

  9. Remember you heard it from me first!!

The new “iPod Boombox” is not what you think. Instead it will be wireless satellite speakers based on Airport Express. Each speaker will sell for $100 and have an integrated WiFi point so they will only need to plug into the wall outlet. Each speaker will have full stereo, so you do not need to buy them in pairs unless you want to. An added accessory will be the long-awaited WiFi dock for the iPod so the speakers can recieve input from the iPod or iTunes. Remember the low-key addition in iTunes 6.03 of the ability to stream to multiple speakers simultaneously? The new Universal dock will be updated to support a remote that is not infared so you can control it from anywhere in the house. Another addition will be a small dock-connected WiFi transmitter for the iPod itself (so you don’t have to use the Dock), in which case the iPod will function as the transmitter and remote in one unit. Oh, and did I mention that each speaker will be approximately the SIZE of the current Airport Express? They will work with Bose to get great sound from a very portable design that everyone will want. These speakers will also double as a WiFi point for your computer.

Leave it to Apple to Think Different!

mw=again, as in Apple is about to do it again…
