Apple shows Intel-native Aperture 1.1

“Apple is showing an updated version of its professional photography workflow application, Aperture at the Photography Marketing Association (PMA) show in Orlando, Florida. In addition to being Intel-native, Aperture 1.1 also boasts significant speed increases on both the PowerBook G4 and the Intel processors,” Jim Dalrymple reports for Macworld. “Kirk Paulsen, Apple’s senior director, market development professional applications, told Macworld on Sunday that Aperture is being shown on the new MacBook Pro and iMac. While Aperture includes a significant number of improvements, the performance of the application on existing PowerPC- and Intel-based machines is impressive… Aperture 1.1 is scheduled for release in March as a free download.”

  1. Aperture is downright brilliant! But it does have a few holes. Please let Aperture 1.1 include,

    1. Support for camera sound files. (This is a deal breaker for most pro sports photographers I know)
    2. Color balance presets. (Like I have in my camera, all other RAW programs have it)
    3. Curves pallet. (Their levels works well but you need both)
    4. Repeating request #1, it’s that important!
    5. More cool and useful things I haven’t thought of but won’t be able to live without once I discover it.

Two-thumbs-up for supporting early adopters by offering the upgrade for free.

Aperture’s speed on my bear minimum G4 1.25 GHz and bear minimum 1 Gig memory laptop is better than I thought it would be. Very usable, even with my daily deadlines.
Looking forward to more speed with 1.1, and more RAM.

  2. Okay synthmeister, you got me! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

Thanks for the complements. It’s a fun job. Frustrating at times, but I couldn’t see me doing anything else.

Adobe’s Lightroom looks interesting as well. It’s a great time to be a photographer on the Mac!
