“At a special media event to be held on its campus next week, Apple Computer will unveil a new line of low-cost Intel-based Mac mini desktop computers but will not debut its next-generation iBook consumer notebooks,” AppleInsider reports. “According to reports from a variety of sources, Apple this week released the Intel Mac mini design to its manufacturing partners in the Far East, which are currently ramping production of the compact computers in an effort to build an initial inventory stockpile.”

“Based on this information, it would appear that there will be at least some availability of the systems immediately following their announcement [this] Tuesday,” AppleInsider reports.

  1. If the Mac Mini comes with anything less than and Intel processor and something great like a TV tuner and/or DVR functionality, it will be a complete DUD! It’s way past due in realizing its full potential.

  2. Not keynote-worthy in and of itself, for sure. I think that EVERY special event will need something iPod (big, too). This hi-fi system is kind of iffy…

Let’s just wait for Kevin Rose to give us the scoop tomorrow. By the way, does anybody think that Kevin Rose might have a deal with Apple to advertise the company’s hardware and software (as he does on diggnation and twit) in exchange for the only reliable insider news? He’s hit the last few announcements hard.

  3. There will be a new Mac mini announced, it will have an Intel Core Solo processor and Front Row with remote among other enhancements, but no DVR capability. That won’t be the day’s show stopper though, you’ll just have to wait another 48 hours to see what that will be… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  4. I’m here to proclaim the usual (with my customary poor spelling):

    – Trusted Computing will be the deth of the Mac as we no it.

    – Apple doesn’t make quality product anymmore.

    – The iPod has scene its day. From hear on sales will decline preciputously.

    – Mac minis have never lived up to potentiul and will be eclipsed by Windows Media Center.

    – Steve Jobs can’t maintane the Reality Distorsian Field much longer. He won’t even make Tuesdays announcements.

    – By a Powermac with G5s now to have control over you’re media.

All us Mac users should switch to Windows or Linux before its to late.

  5. The news regarding this next show by Apple is scaring me.

I’m not interested in having fun, as the invite suggests. I want to see some serious business coming forth.

$1,500 for a MacBook sounds like the kiss of death to me.

Could it be that Steve’s attention has gone elsewhere lately?

  6. MacDude if you are going to try to convince people that you are making intelligent statements, you ought to go to grade school first and learn to spell you idiot.

“- Trusted Computing will be the deth of the Mac as we no it.”
    DETH?

“- The iPod has scene its day. From hear on sales will decline preciputously.”

    SCENE? HEAR ON? PRECIPUTOUSLY?

“- Mac minis have never lived up to potentiul and will be eclipsed by Windows Media Center.”
    POTENTIUL?

“- Steve Jobs can’t maintane the Reality Distorsian Field much longer”
    MAINTANE?

    You’ve got to be kidding

  7. A few months ago I read of a chip that was just being released that could encode h.264 in real time. I think that’s what Apple has been waiting on (among several things no doubt) before it could introduce a Mini as a TIVO-like device, cause even a Quad G5 can’t do it at high resolution in real time.

  8. The cool thing to me is that this company can continually raise interest in its products, to the point where people argue over exactly HOW COOL they may be. Others, also seek to diminish the hopes for their own reasons. No one else gets this to happen like this.

There are higher order psychological factors involved in how this company operates. Good times, good times.

Oh, yeah, and to fit in (for those of you too sensitive to see this, turn away now):

Hate, hate, sarcasm… invective. Hate, sarcasm, blatant fabrication, dismissal. Ulterior motive, dismissal, invective, slur, projection, hate, attempt to placate, hate.

    So there.

  9. Special Announcement!

Steve will perform the Chicken Song in front of millions in a Bunny suit.

Roz Ho will pull a chicken out from her ass while listening to her iPod shuffle with iSight.

Madonna will phone in at the height of the show asking Steve where she left her bra from last night.

  10. “Madonna will phone in at the height of the show asking Steve where she left her bra from last night.”

    Wouldn’t THAT make for an interesting iChat message when Steve’s on stage. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

Seriously, Cupertino City Works will be using it as a pair of traffic cones, to help direct cars around Apple HQ.

  11. I’m here to proclaim the usual (with my customary poor spelling):

    – Trusted Computing will be the deth of the Mac as we no it.

    – Apple doesn’t make quality product anymmore.

    – The iPod has scene its day. From hear on sales will decline pr….etc.

    Oh GOD that was funny!

    Actually MDN mispelled the headline

RUMOR: Low cost Intel based Mac mni coming this Tuesday, ‘MacBooks’ (iBooks) at later date

You see my influence is psreading, you cnt win, you will now degenerate, windows will be your master.

    Begin.

  12. Isn’t it fantastic that Apple is coming out with new products? Wonder if Apple is going to fix some of the security problems that have been hitting virtually every day on existing ones? Now there is a IM kit that is infecting users that run iChat. While Mac fan boys continue to say nothing is wrong while Rome burns, we all know the users are getting hosed. Where is Apple? Where are the security announcements? Where is Steve Jobs, the fearless leader telling everyone how to secure their systems? Because there is no way to secure OSX. It is a security nightmare based on security through obscurity and every day that passes sees more malware coming out for every piece of software.

Time to switch to another operating system before these things eat your files. Don’t forget to short Apple stock while you are out purchasing a new Dell or HP.
