RUMOR: Apple to debut iPod ‘Hi-Fi’ Boombox this Tuesday

“Among the products Apple will debut at next Tuesday’s media event will be the iPod ‘Hi-Fi’ boombox, reliable sources have informed Think Secret. “Apple’s media event will begin at 9:00 a.m. PT on February 28 and take place in the Apple Town Hall on the company’s campus,” Katz reports.

  1. If this is all that Apple has to demo on Tuesday then their stock price is going to drop about $10 by the end of the day. A boom box is nice but so what! Just how many people actually use a boombox anymore? It is the type of accessory that I think Apple should leave to the 3rd party vendors.

  2. I think Apple caught Think Secret’s source. His information has been either wrong or just rehashing old news. I bet when Apple sued him they suspected who it who was feeding him information, but need the lawsuit to prosecute the source. They didn’t get to prosecute but obviously fixed the leak.

  3. I agree 100% with TommyBoy. Except I totally disagree.

I think they’ll announce a great new product that you’ll be able to order with only a six months wait before shipping. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  4. It’s supposed to be FUN! Whatever is announced, the promo invite says “Fun!”

    Boombox fun?
Is a Gigabit Airport Extreme w/ HD & video to TV fun?
Is a true iPod video fun?
Is a MacBook and/or MacTel Mini fun?
    Tablet Mac fun?

What is fun about Apple, besides waiting in line at the Genius Bar?

  5. I just realized what could come from Apple and be really fun. They will announce a new program called iRumor. It can generate thousands of rumors about upcoming Apple releases and keep the faithful drooling at a rate previously unheard of.

    Now, THAT would be fun!

  6. Boombox? Boombox? I don’t need no stinking boombox. You call this fun, gringo. Maybe I play a song for your sister and make her dance, eh? That would be fun.

Boombox is 80’s history. Apple gotta do better than this. What’s next? A Pocket Fisherman with iPod attachment or a VCR with a USB port? Sheesh, when did Ron Popeil start working with Apple?

  7. Apple: “We got this new great device!”

User: “Oh yea, what about the one you put out last month?”

Apple: “But this one is better, does more”

User: “But I already have 6, only use one and can’t afford another”

Apple: “GET OUT YOU CHEAP BUM, YOUR NO LONGER COOL”

User: “Well ok sorry, what about this EFI and Trusted Computing thing I hear online about? Are you really going to allow developers to access our machines without the OS being aware of it?

Apple: “Don’t talk about that or we will break your legs.”

User: “Hey, I don’t like being threatened”

Apple: “What are you going to do about it? Stop using computers? Everyone is doing it and we rather side with those like Sony/BMG, the RIAA, the MIAA, Microsoft and marketers who want to know everything you do, record every song you play and every movie you watch.”

“Oh yes it’s going to be whole new world, a Trusted Computing world. Where we decide what software your allowed to run or not to run.”

User: “I don’t think I’m going to like this very much”

Apple: “Yours is not to question why, just walk into a Apple Store and buy”

“We have done everything for you”

    Watching everyone not-in-the-know go crazy with anticipation ahead of big announcements. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  9. Fun? Hmmm. How about OS X running natively on PC’s? Yeah, that’s the ticket; Apple releases “Longhorn” before Microsoft.

Watching Bill Gates defecate in his trousers, Steve Ballmer blubbering in the corner, and all the trolls running in circles with their hands in the air. What a hoot!

  10. I think Apple should start announcing at least one item that is on the agenda for these “one more thing” events. It is getting to the point that speculation in advance ruins the announcement. There is always a sense of disappointment that the really cool rumors did not materialize. Over-promise, under-deliver. Not that it is Apple over-promising, but their silence of the subject of the event let’s others make “promises’ in the information vacuum created. On the other hand, you certainly can’t argue that it puts Apples name on the lips of every tech pundit for a week or two.

  11. They might as well change their name to “ThinkObvious”. The Steve’s legal has given ThinkObvious a pimp slap; now ThinkObvious is impotent.
