“Google’s Page Creator, which launched today, is yet another tool in the company’s arsenal of web-based services — this one aimed squarely at the web site design market,” Rachel Rosmarin reports for Forbes. “Intended as a simplistic way for less-technical people to put up a web page, the free service will compete with products from Microsoft, Apple Computer, Adobe and even News Corp.’s MySpace.”
Rosmarin reports, “Individual pages will be hosted at ‘username.googlepages.com’ and each user will be able to store up to 100 megabytes of information, including images. Pages created with Page Creator will be crawled by Google within a few hours, making the content immediately searchable. This is an advantage over other web-site hosts, which can take days to be included in Google’s search results.”

Pretty nice! Very similar to iWeb except it runs in a web browser and doesn’t require you pay for a .Mac membership (yes, I know iWeb allows you to make web pages without .Mac, but its not helpful about it).
I’m sure just like GMail, the safari version will be a long soon.
I couldnt get it to work on Firefox (most recent version) on my MAC either. So – looks likes its a no go for me on either browser. That, in and of itself, is the reason I wont waste my time to even check it out.
They havent supported MACS as a whole with their products, which is really getting old (Even if it is Beta). Google Earth took a while to make it to MAC, the gmail chat is not available in safari, Google chat not available to the MAC (unless you use jabber through ichat), and the list goes on.
I understand we are a small market share, but seriously – Google cant get it right? Pretty lame if you ask me – even for as much as I like google.

Will they ever learn that if they make it for Mac (standards compliant) then everyone can use it?! But, make it for Windows, and you wind up with an endless nightmare of tweaks and adjustments.

Google always talks about supporting the Mac platform but then either doesn’t come through or it takes them FOREVER to do it (witness Google Earth). Sound like anyone else recently? (cough….Adobe)
Mac support is fine on FireFox. I had a website up and running and under 5 minutes.
There really isn’t a reason to be using Safari anymoe with Firefox.
Google does support the Mac platform by supporting Firefox.

Safari is a heap of buggy, crap code anyway. If I had to count the number of crashes before my morning coffee…just use Firefox.
for email and less for web is that MOST people don’t use their 2GB and so it costs them nothing. But more people would find uses for expensive disk space on the their web site, with downloads and video and podcasts and big photos and everything.
They’ll support Safari–it’s the third most popular browser in the world, they’re not going to forget it. Google Earth is here, it’s great, and Gmail chat works with iChat!

Why it metters if goverment monitors it? if you dont have anything to hide it doesnt mettre enless yoy’r one of the scutty terrorists or a dirty hard pornography maker!
Why is it so hard to support Safari? Does Safari need additional support that other browsers don’t or is it a conscious decision to cause problems for Safari users?
What’s the catch? Free Gmail and now free web pages/storage and, from what I can see, for everyone on the planet!!! Is it only advertising that is paying for this? I read the terms of conditions and is says they can insert ads as they decide they need and (if necessary) will provide legal snooping. But who is paying for this?
To those who had it work in Firefox, what version are you running? I could SEE the pages if I turned off Javascript in the toolbar, but once I turned it back on it gave me a message letting me know my browser wasnt supported. I am using the most recent version of Firefox.
And, in regards to Safari. I switched to Safari about 2 months ago because I was tired of the sluggishness and memory sucking of Firefox. It is a GREAT browser, but for all I do – Safari is doing it ten times better. I now only use Firefox to evaluate web sites with the developer extension. If I had extensions for Safari I would have no use for Firefox. It loads slow, it locks up, and it crashes often for me – Safari has crashed once in the last 2 months.
Back on topic – I think its LAME that google – who is known for their ‘innovation’ (number 2 to apple) cant seem to get it right with products like this? It doesnt make any sense to me.
