WinTel 2.1 runs Windows on Intel Macs; developer promises up to 600 percent performance gains

“OpenOSX released WinTel 2.1, a new version of its software for running Windows on Intel Macs. The company claims performance gains of 300-to-600 percent over version 2.0 for Intel Macs. WinTel 2.1 now uses the QEMU virtual machine,” MacWindows reports.

“Last week we reported that open source developer Gwenolé Beauchesne had ported the open-source QEMU x86 virtual machine from PowerPC to Mac-Intel. OpenOSX is now using Beauchesne’s port of QEMU in WinTel 2.1,” MacWindows reports. “OpenOSX claims that WinTel 2.1 can boot Windows XP in just over half a minute on the 2.0 GHz iMac Intel with the 512-MB of RAM installed. WinTel 2.1 is a “universal” Mac application that can also run on PowerPC G4 and G5 Macs.”

I’d be happy to do so, if they’ll supply a copy of Windows to install on it, but I won’t fork over my money to Microsoft.
