I ordered the one they had before this latest model, I’m not happy with my Newertech battery. It arrived with part of the bottom coming off, it was made very flimsy, and now the bottom paint is rubbing off. The battery life itself was not great, I measured it using the various OS X battery apps and it was always below average. I might have just gotten a bad one but still, I’m so disappointed. I didn’t return it because I’m not from the U.S. and it would cost to much to ship/re-ship.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve bought a number of things (hard drive’s & memory) from Other World Computing (OWC) by clicking on the ad from this web site and I’m a very happy customer.
But MDN should include a disclaimer that OWC is a regular advertiser on this site whenever they post a story about them. Especially if it’s their own story! It is good journalistic practice.

Good call. There should always be a disclaimer when an advertiser has a feature story about them (which in itself is a kinda sketchy area to get into in terms of journ ethics) — nice catch!
They make 16% sound like a giant leap. But what does that equal in uptime if you’re an unlucky 3D/Video op on the road…8mins+ ? I’d say bring on a battery that can handle dem nuclear c.rods as rechargers. We would have uptimes closer to a hundred years – and a great aftermarket price as well. I guess the heat generated wouldn’t differ too much compared to todays machines tho.
I’ve bought tons of stuff from OWC over the years, but the PB laptop battery was a dissappointment. It’s rated for 4800mAH, and having cycled it 19x since October, and followed all of their instructions, I’ve never gotten above 4680mAH. The average I’ve gotten is about 4100mAH. A BIG dissappointment.
