Analysts: Apple a ‘big mean cash machine,’ expect Mac market share gains

“Analysts at American Technology Research, Needham & Co and Piper Jaffray have urged their clients not to bail on Apple’s shares. Charles Wolf of Needham & Co, Shaw Wu of American Technology Research and Gene Munster at Piper Jaffrray all predict a fast-paced series of product introductions from Apple this year. Wolf calls Apple: ‘The most exciting story in our universe.’ Wu describes the computer company as: ‘A big mean cash machine.’ Looking forward, Munster predicted that Apple would see growth in both its iPod and Mac sales. ‘While 2005 was the year of iPod growth, we believe 2006 is poised to be the year of both iPod growth and, more importantly, Mac market share gains,’ he wrote,” Jonny Evans reports for Macworld UK.

Evans reports, “Wolf echoed the positive outlook: ‘If anything, the pace of new product introductions should accelerate in 2006 as Apple transitions to an all-Intel Mac lineup, continues to build out the iPod platform, and launches its long-anticipated invasion of the digital living room,’ he observed. Wolf raised his fiscal 2006 earnings per share estimate from $1.95 to $2.05 and the 2007 estimate from $2.40 to $2.50… Wolf predicts that iBooks will move to Intel this spring and expects Power Macs to grow Intel hearts during the summer. And he told investors: ‘The move to the Intel platform has the potential to materially increase Mac sales once the transition is completed.’ Wolf put some fresh cards on the table. He ‘expects the actual video iPod’ later this year – with a larger screen. He also said he: ‘Would not be surprised to see the Mac mini assume its rightful place in the living room as a digital entertainment server.’ Wolf also predicts major content deals, and describes Microsoft’s failure to make a mark in most homes. Microsoft, ‘insists on imposing an impossibly complex system on consumers,’ he said. ‘Apple’s represents a far better bet to succeed in its effort,’ he predicted.”

  1. The biggest reason to stick with Apple?
The X-pod coming out next Christmas.

Never heard of the X-pod? Well, did you know what a ‘nano’ was this time last year?

    ’nuff said.

  2. iAm an analyst getting paid a 6 figure income to make baseless predictions in order to gain readership for my employers ublication.

iPredict, that MS will buy Apple this summer. MS will immdediately proceed to rebadge OS X as Vista, provide us w/ a Play 4 Sure compatible iPod (which is much needed), adopt Front Row as the new Windows Media Center, and proivde integration w/ the X360 (an incredible system by the way, no sarcasm, it really is). Soon thereafter MS will adopt all of Apple application suits as its own. MS will use these new assests to strenghten its dominance in the computer industry.

    U heard it here first.

  3. Ummmm . . . has ANYONE noticed the direction Apple’s stock price has been heading lately? I mean, pardon my language, but WTF is up with that?

Almost 10 DOLLARS lost! 10 dollars!!

    This seems wrong.

God I wish I knew more about stocks.

As a consequence of M$ purchase of Apple, any innovation in personal computers will cease to exist since there will be no one to copy and no motivation to make anything better due to lack of competition. Some of us will begin to use Linux, but M$ will lobby to have laws enacted against the use of any software not owned by M$, creating a new class of criminals (Linux users).

Oh yeah, 10 years after that the Vogons will destroy the Earth to create a new hyperspace bypass.

  5. dogfriend: You really shouldn’t being hanging out with Vogons. People will talk. You think the Linux wing of the federal prison will let inmates use the web? I read somewhere that even Charlie Manson has his own blog.
If they do, it will probably be from Windows 1.0 and the earliest Explorer browser as punishment.

The constitution forbids “cruel and unusual punishment”. I’m certain that Windows 1.0 thru 3.1 would be included, and the later versions of Windows would also be considered cruel if you had ever used Mac OS X.

    MDN word: lower
If M$ ever buys Apple, you will need to lower your expectations.
