    Is Windows itself a Virus?

No, Windows is not a virus. Here’s what viruses do:

    • They replicate quickly – okay, Windows does that.

    • Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so – okay, Windows does that.

    • Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk – okay, Windows does that too.

    • Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. Sigh… Windows does that, too.

    • Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware. Yup, that’s with Windows, too.

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences:Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature.

So Windows is not a virus.
    It’s a bug.

  2. Happy New Year to you too, MDN! Thanks for providing this forum for us Mac fanatics, for keeping track of the tech and geek news that we all love, for your usually insightful and always funny takes, and for putting up with the occasional brickbats from your more unruly patrons.

MW “expected”, as in “People are expected to be civil, but it doesn’t always work out that way. Maybe we’ll all be a little more civil to each other this year?”

  3. That was just brilliant Mike Buonarroti (no relation to Michela I presume…?)

I think the ‘Windows is a Bug’ message HAS to become a viral email… I’m kicking it off right now by sending it to a thousand names. It will carry a link to OSX on Apple.com to finish it off!

Right-on fella’s; its the YEAR OF SHINY BRIGHT APPLES!

  4. Does anyone know of a place online that will have a live macworld expo feed? I’d love to watch Steve’s opening keynote, if yas know of a place lemme know. Thanx.

MDN Magic word “about”, as in I HAVE to know what Steve’s speach will be about!

  5. I’m like soooo looking forward to the new iBong that Steve’s gonna announce a week and a half from now.

Hopefully it won’t malfunction during his demonstration and he won’t chuck it at some underling off-camera.

Cuz that’d be, like, bad for the iBong.

  6. Happy New Year to all (who follow this calendar)!

anyway… this year I wanted to set up my own web domain and site. I want it to host audio podcasts, video podcasts, pictures, text, the works.

The only problem is I don’t know any HTML or Java or anything…..

If anyone knows of any service that can help me, could you send me an email? dk7987@sbcglobal.net

    Thanks!

And Good Luck on all your endeavors of the new year!
