“I frequently refer to the date and time in the menubar. I was looking for the option to put the date next to time, so that I can avoid clicking the date to bring up the drop-down menu which shows the date. There is no easy straightforward way, but I found a small trick that enables me to customize the field fully without much interference to the system,” Ivan writes for creativebits.org.

Now, how do I get the winning Lotto numbers in the menu bar?
that just rocks
I hate to sound jaded, but this is old news.
Very handy. Thanks, MDN.
MW: months – oooh, spooky!
Cool. I always wondered why Apple made it so I would have to click to see the Date. This is great no matter where it came from. Thanks.
Works good, but we of course shouldn’t have had to worry about it, Apple should have taken care of it for us.
Sumbitch! Doesn’t work for 10.2! Damn you, antiquated work computers!!! DAMN YOUUUUU!!!!!!!
Worked for me! Thanks Ivan!
Thanks! That was new to me. It always annoyed me a bit to have to click for the date.
to display a random date, not today’s date.
Come on Apple, give us the features we want!
I’ve had date & time in my menu bar for ages. It’s been so long I don’t remember how I did it. But then, I don’t remember yesterday sometimes.
Extra Cool!!!
I use a program called wclock. Clicking on the date in the memnu bar opens a small calendar (initially showing the current month), which can be moved forwards & backwards, etc. Much faster than iCal or Dashboard when you need to do a quick check of a date.
Check it out.
Hemorrhoid Rage: Why anyone would still be using Jaguar is beyond me. I see no need for anyone to upgrade from Panther to Tiger, but no one with any sense should still be using an operating system earlier than 10.3.9. Jaguar was still just a beta. Panther is when OS X became finished product.
Sweet! Works like a charm.
Most mundane article yet published on on this drivelling snotrag of mac site.
qka,
I’ll second that for wClock. Works great, very customizable, love the calendar pop-down, and it’s a free download.

I don’t have any connection with them, I just use the program.
This is a neat and very useful piece of info. However, I need a bigger menubar!

I rather like ‘MenuCalendarClock’. Unobtrusive, iCal integration, standard string-replacement customization.
Apple, as usual, provides limited options for displaying your preferred date-time format, locating your HD icon or even getting rid of the pesky startup sound. MW: Give me back some control of the Apple Menu for chrissakes! Or iTunes fonts!

And I’m about to say the same thing about Panther, Jaquar was alpha, Panther was beta and Tiger is the finished product.
Wait until you do a fresh install of Tiger, it will blow 10.3.9 away.
Agreed. Try wClock. http://www.wolfware.com
