Citigroup: Intel-based PowerBook in January, Apple target price raised to $71

“Apple Computer Inc. could introduce its first laptop computers based on Intel Corp. chips as early as January, which, together with robust sales of video iPods, should drive earnings higher, Citigroup said on Wednesday,” Reuters reports. “Citigroup analyst Richard Gardner raised his target on the computer maker’s stock price to $71 from $51 and boosted his earnings forecasts for the next two years [and] raised his 2006 revenue forecast to $20.4 billion from $17.6 billion… For 2007, he expects revenue of $24.3 billion.”

“‘We are becoming more convinced that Apple will introduce its first Intel-based PowerBook at Macworld San Francisco,’ Gardner said in a note to clients. That conference runs from January 9 to 13,” Reuters reports.

  1. ‘We are becoming more convinced that my cheating wife will introduce her first whore-based chlamydia virus to my genital region at the 23rd Annual Alternative Lifestyles Ball in Las Vegas in January,’ Gardner said in a note to fellow swingers.

Meaningless speculating on top of whispered innuendo.

(Of course, that never stopped Microsoft, so . . . )

  2. Well, I would be more inclined to believe it’s going to be an intel based iBook, now PowerBook in light of the recent refresh it just had. But, these analyst probably do not know the difference between an iBook and a PowerBook. Either way, this will be cool!

  3. it has to be new powerbooks. the current powerbooks are so dated. dont beleive steve will be letting macworld go without releasing new absolutely kickass powerbooks and i beleive new ibooks as well. all in one go.
problem solved, with the quad in the powermacs, thats sorted, the imac is fine, may be new intels in the mac-minis too.

  4. And what happens if Apple doesn’t get this new stuff out at MacWorld in Jan….??? Will wallstreet be disapointed??? yes they will, and the stock will be punished….a gazillion iPods, Mactel laptops…oh boy, I surely hope all these rumors/estimates come true…

  5. I want an iBook with built-in DVR, light saber, George Foreman grill, exabyte HD, terabyte of RAM, polycarbonate case that actually deflects bullets and also glows different colors based on mood (its and mine), 10 Ghz dual core Yonah-PPC hybrid, same speed bus with daily and weekend bus schedules, chrome wheels, backlit keyboard that pulses to music rhythms, refillable air freshener fan attachment, moisturizer dispenser, anti-gravity mechanism for quick getaways, 32x quad layer DVD burner, cell phone, PS2 game adapter, lettuce crisper, tattoo removal kit, disco mirror ball, Mighty Mouse (the peripheral and cartoon character), tongue scraper, artificial intelligence (Turing certified), garden gnome, and every current and legacy port ever made for US$999. (plus AppleCare, of course) Come on, Steve! Just ONE MORE THING!

  6. Ampar,
Prepare to be disappointed come January 9th… according to my highly reliable sources at Apple, the chrome isn’t sticking to the wheel rims evenly, so Apple may have to switch to their backup plan, which is multi-hued anodized aluminum rims. Or wheels from a ’73 Opel.

Oh, and there will be no weekend bus schedule…

  7. I read an article at one of the other rumor sites about how Intel has been trying to get manufacturers onboard to let them build really amazing motherboards, with flash drives so that the Operating System would start up automatically and use less power as only media and non system Applications would be on the HDD. My guess is that Apple let Intel run with it and it allowed for a slimmer Powerbook/iBook.
I think my 1.25 ALPB will last me satisfactorily till the 2nd or 3rd Intel revision PB. But that doesnt mean my jaw wont be on the floor in January if this comes true

  8. re: “flash drives so that the Operating System would start up automatically and use less power as only media and non system Applications would be on the HDD”

Wow! I’m not an engineer but that sounds like an amazing idea. Can flash memory work as fast as RAM memory?
