‘iTunes for x86’ hack posted online for Mac OS X for x86 users

McMAC has posted “iTunes for x86” online their website. McMAC also recently posted the iMac G5-only Apple applications “Front Row” and “Photo Booth” for Mac OS X Tiger users on their website. We assume that distributing Apple software without permission has likely caused Apple’s legal team to start rolling on this, but we have heard nothing out of Apple regarding McMAC to date.

“iTunes for x86” requirements include:
• Intel processor capable of running OS X x86
• 384MB of ram (784MB recommended)
• Mac OS X v.10.4.1 x86
• CD burner for burning CD’s
• FireWire and/or USB for iPod connection
• Broadband connection for iTunes Music Store

  1. holy shit. someone please tell me that these ram requirements are due to the inefficiency of the port of itunes or something other than being on x86. I usually run iTunes with at least 4 or 5 other apps constantly on 512MB ram. If OSx86 apps are this much heavier I’m going to be pissed.

  2. it more advantageous for Apple to let things go until Leopard comes out. look at how much information they are accumulating

    MDNW: ‘slowly’

Apple does everything slowly and deliberately and thats why they get it right

  3. My guess is that Apple doesn’t care too much about x86 application hacks because only a small number of people are trying to run MacOS X on Intel (mostly developers). Few people are going to hack MacOS X to run on a standard Intel box and those people, by all accounts, will be doing it for fun, not to use as a reliable, robust OS for daily use.
