Apple adds Pixar movie short ‘Knick Knack’ to USA iTunes Music Store

Apple has added a new Pixar short, “Knick Knack,” to the USA iTunes Music Store.

Life on a shelf as a snowman trapped in a snow-globe blizzard can become wearing, especially when you’re surrounded by knickknacks from sunnier locales. When the jaded snowman finally breaks free of his glass house, his vacation plans are cut short.

Pixar’s “Knick Knack” on Apple’s iTunes Music Store. $1.99.

  1. CDN Guy: I hear you, and don’t forget about the Ft. Lauderdale paperweight girl too! I have the 35mm film version of the original Knick Knack. It was shown years ago as a paid commercial for Asüna, a now non-existant car brand. They showed the video, then a text slide faded in with the message “The preceding short was brought to you by… Asüna”

I used to work for a Toronto area movie theatre and went back to visit the projectionist years later and he gave it to me when I noticed it on a shelf. That was before Toy Story and before Pixar was a household brand name.

I should put it on eBay, it might be worth something…

  2. I saw Knick Knack at Siggraph the year that it came out. It was in 3D, and when I say 3D I mean with glasses to make it look 3D (not just created as 3D animation). Most of the films shown that year were presented that way and it was really cool.

I have a video tape with it on with the original girl (with boobs) and it is a lot nicer I think.

  3. why the hell did they shrink her titties? was that part of the Disney contract? “Keep it family-safe or get lost…”
    bastards 🙁
If someone should have the original version as a good res.download plz let me know. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  4. I’ve been downloading Nightstalker ’cause I can’t remember when it’s on TV, but I haven’t watched ANY of my downloads ’cause I can’t find the time. I did see the first one and liked it. Are the other episodes just as good?

  5. I wish you could burn these to a DVD for watching on a TV. I probably won’t be getting an iPod with Video until Xmas and right now that is the only native way to do this that I know of.

Has anybody had any experience with Snapz Pro from Ambrosia? I think that you could use that as a work around.

  6. Nightstalker has been cancelled due to poor ratings (and reviews).

Knick Knack was reworked for Disney’s “Family Friendly” audience. Ha! I guess someone with a large bosom is not “family friendly”.

If you have been downloading these from iTunes you can play on your Mac (or PC) and possibly connect that to your TV for big picture viewing. If you have been downloading them and Divxs from a Bittorrent site then there are DVD players that will play Divx movies very well.

  7. Before-and-after photos of the the breast reduction surgery victims available here – http://www.dvdfr.com/news/news.php?id=2701 . I THOUGHT there was something different from the first version that I’d seen, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on the difference. Thanks for pointing it out.

I’m as liberal and PC as the next blue-stater, but this revisionism still seems like overkill to me, and just a tad insidious. They’re SUPPOSED to be caricatures, not photorealistic depictions of actual people, after all.

  8. Jack A – This forum would seem to imply that the videos aren’t legally convertible to burning onto a DVD, so I suspect Snapz Pro would play by those rules. But I bet someone has figured a way around it.

I suppose you could also just run the video in iTunes fullscreen and hook your Mac up to your TV with a VGA converter…
