Samsung: no plans to launch ‘Apple iTunes Music Store killer’

“Contrary to reports last week, Samsung Electronics Co. has no plans to enter the online music business with a system similar to Apple Computer Inc.’s iTunes service, an executive said Thursday. ‘We are not interested at all in a music service ourselves,’ Choi Gee-sung, president of Samsung’s digital media business, told reporters. South Korean media earlier this week quoted Choi as saying the company planned such a service, remarks later confirmed by the company,” The Associated Press reports.

“Choi on Thursday said there had been ‘some misunderstanding’ of comments he made to Korean reporters late last week. He said rather than go into the online music business itself, Samsung wants to work to help those whose software is harder to use than iTunes to develop platforms that make services easier and more attractive to customers,” The Associated Press reports.

  1. This is a much wiser move as Samsung does not have the Software tallent to take a stab at Apple.

Still, How does one vendor make their hardware compatible to the unique needs of MSFT, YHOO, and NAPS?

    MDN word: own

  2. Now they want to act as consultants to poor, deprivcd and beaten up iTunes competitors

The original working title of the classic story was “Ali Babba and the Forty Consultants”, until it was realized that the word “consultants” scared little children, so it was changed to the less scary word “thieves”.

  3. Choi on Thursday said: “… rather than go into the online music business itself, Samsung wants to work to help those whose software is harder to use than iTunes to develop platforms that make services easier and more attractive to customers.”

    Good luck with that one…

  4. Samsung and Microsoft and Real all collaborating on software?! Ooo, that just makes me goosepimply all over. Are these other companies even asking for Samsung’s “help?” They don’t need help they need a clue.

Apple execs must be rolling on the floor.

  5. Okay, where exactly did they say they weren’t going to release an ‘Apple iTunes Music Store killer’? Is everything that comes out to compete with iTunes Music Store a ‘killer’?

Just like Disney’s MP3 players are iPod shuffle ‘killers’? Are all MP3 players that aren’t iPods ‘killers’?

  6. “Samsung wants to work to help those whose software is harder to use than iTunes to develop platforms that make services easier and more attractive to customers,”

So, if Apple is their best customer, why hurt them???

Sour grapes after the joint venture collapse??
