Mac enthusiast Web site offers Front Row, Photo Booth to all Mac users

With the announcement in early September of the iPod video and new iMac, Apple Computer gave users two new applications: Front Row and Photo Booth. Unfortunately, the applications, Apple said, would only be available on the new iMac and had no plans to put them on any of their other products,” MacCentral reports. “While Apple may not have had plans to distribute the applications, Macintosh enthusiast Web site McMac has made both applications available for download.”

Obviously, the legality of McMac’s move is a question.

  1. Trouble is no-one has the patience to wait for it…

Everything has to be NOW NOW NOW.

..the way of the diginetworld hey?

Let Apple make a few more bob selling the new iMacs. The they’ll spend a few more bob looking after you too.

  2. Some of you are so paranoid – must be ex-Windows users. Anyway, if you’re worried about security then just be prepared and careful. Install it on a secondary OS X installation. Have a complete backup of your system if you can’t do that. If you can’t do either of the above and you’re still scared, don’t install it. If you’re really paranoid, check this article. The trouble isn’t the opportunity to try out Front Row, the trouble is being a brash and oblivious computer user.

My problem is getting 512 px versions of my custom media icons.

  3. 10.4.3 does not break it, you merely have to change the code in the opening script app around, i forgot it, but its out there. also with the dvd player 4.6.2 makes dvds work in front row as well.

  4. May I be forgiven for the unforgivable, but the McMac download is great. Since I can’t afford a new iMac at every new release, and since I have been a loyal Mac user and purchaser since the beginning, I decided to take the risk and see what this download is all about. Hats off to McMac for showing what a great app this is. And hats off to McMac for producing a near flawless implementation. With my iMac G5, 1.8 Ghz, 2 GB, running 10.4.3, this thing sings. Even while running a lot of stuff in the background (Mail, Opera browser, QuickTime, creating a movie slideshow with iView Pro), it does what it’s designed to do. All four components work, with keyboard commands (I don’t have a remote or universal dock). The video preview screens come up instantly, iTunes plays instantly, iPhoto slideshows work, and the app even finds all the .mov files on my computer, even those on an external hard drive! If there’s any bad stuff happening I haven’t found it yet after 3 + days of use. C’mon Apple, loosen up and make this available for free to the many loyalists who have been buying Mac’s and getting the word out for years.

  5. P.S. Even movie trailers are accessed flawlessly. The screen is filled with movie posters, you click on what you want to see, and up the trailer comes, full-screen. It’s even easier than viewing them on iTunes. And,oh yeah, the album art in iTunes is full-screen and crisp. Wow!

  6. i downloaded it, but with no remote for my mini it was pretty useless.
If i wanna listen to tunes i’ll just open iTunes..same with all the other apps. i’m gonna wait till it’s official with some kind of remote interface.
    I’ve removed it now.
