I once left a 512MB Compact Flash in my shirt pocket and it went into the washer and dryer…..I later found it in the dryer. I was doubtful it was going to work. Well….after 1 year it still works to this day.

Wow, this is GREAT news. I am sorry that the guy had to go through this but this was the big question that still remained. And now (at least anecdotally) it seems to be answered.
I was worried a bit by the screen cracking issue but now that they have that solved and the scratching put in perspective, I can whole-heartedly recommend the nano again. Especially with the Ars Technica driving over it with a car testing and now this washing machine experience. That little sucker is TOUGH!

You might want to take it to an Apple tech. to have it checked. You won’t see the corrosion until it’s too late. Just a thought.
giofoto, I put my 256 Scandisk though the wash about 7-8 times now, had it less than a year, and it still ticks and has my files. My mom doesn’t understand why, and the reason why it still works is because I wait to plug it in. As long as there is no electric current going though it while its wet, it wont get fried. So, I let my usb stick dry out first before putting it to use again. I’m not sure if this person waited to let his nano dry before plugging it in, it sounded like he didn’t, and he could have fried it. But if he waited, let it dry, then turned it on, it would have most likely worked just as if it didn’t go though the wash.
Why am I having a hard time believing this??????????
Maybe I should post this tale: My dog ate my Nano thinking it was a candy bar or something. Then I followed the dog around for a day or so waiting for the Nano to exit the opposite side of my dog that it went in. Finally the pile came out the backside of the dog and there was my Nano!!!
I went and washed it off, let it dry, then turned it on and it worked!!! Amazing!!!! The downside is that now all the music on my Nano sounds like shit….
This story kicks ass – it also puts those scratch stories into perspective.
What’s next?? Is someone going to accidentally roast their iPod nano in the Thanksgiving turkey??!!

How many other electronic devices are able to stand a fully immersed wash and then be useable after a one minute blast in a drier while still within a soaking wet shirt pocket ?
Unless the iPod nano is watertight ( unlikely ), water will have got onto the circuit board and created random signal paths, causing random effects that show as anything from slight malfunctions to burn-outs.
Anything electronic that I’ve deliberately soaked in water ( to wash out something like a coffee spill ) has needed at least 48 hours in a warm place to get rid of the residual moisture.
This is the perfect article for all the weenies complaining about their scratches. Talk about a bunch of cry-babies.
mmmm solid state. I have a USB stick, SanDisc Cruzer Micro. Its been through the wash about 3 times and still works. But yeah I wouldn’t expect an iPod to be that water proof.

Looks like most of you guys have never seen a circuit board operation wash boards after they’ve come out of wave soldering in a dishwasher. Depending on the source of water, tap water isn’t generally a good conductor, which is why you get electrocuted in the bath tub as your body is the better conductor.
I took an unanticipated dip in a muddy lake with my Motorola cell phone. Took the case off and rinsed it with tap water, following up with a dip in distilled water. After a couple of days of air drying worked fine.
A vacuum chamber is a good place to dry stuff that got a bath. We’ve dried any number of watches over the years in ours.
Cleaned a Mac keyboard that had coke spilled in it. Took the board out and immersed it in tap water for a while. Rinsed in distilled. Worked fine after a couple of days of air drying.
Not at all surprised that a Nano would work after a bath and a little drying time.
I wish my camera would still work after it’s trip through the wash… no luck on this side though, poo.
I have heard that distilled water will do a good job of cleaning sticky keys from spilt soda on a keyboard….but you do have to let it dry.
And it will work like new.
