Chris J. Shull’s Get Lyrical v0.8 AppleScript will attempt to get the lyrics of the currently playing or selected tracks from searchlyrics.org and store them in the track’s lyrics tag.
To use, you simply put this script in your iTunes Scripts folder. This is located in user name > Library > iTunes. If there is no folder named “Scripts” there, create one and put the script in it. It will then appear in iTunes’ Script menu, where you can activate it by clicking on its name. While a track is playing, or while one or more tracks are selected, run the script. Lyrics, if found, will be imported to the currently playing or selected tracks’ lyric tags in iTunes.
iTunes 5 required.

I used pearLyrics to get all the lyrics for my 2000 songs, this script looks great, but for me I needed different sources to get all the different lyrics.
I want to be able to search the lyrics in iTunes! The search bar is a convenient addition to iTunes 5 but it should have a “Lyrics” tab on it so I can create smart playlists that contain certain words or find the song that has the line that is stuck in my head!!
Why doesn’t Apple include an option in iTunes to automatically import lyrics like the track IDs (CDDB Information). That would be much better that having to load up a program each time to find lyrics.
I tried this AppleScript and it was wrong about 50% of the time, either getting the wrong lyrics or no results. You know what works? The pearLyrics widget.
Mac ed> Maybe the problem is that lyrics (at least some of them) may be protected by copyright or equivalent rights. In France, I remember some web sites providing lyrics were asked by label legal departments to stop sharing. I know it sounds stupid, but that is probably the right explanation…
pearLyrics is not bad, maybe less than 5% wrong and it finds some french lyrics too ! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
OK, now I’m frustrated, wher the h*ll is the stupid iTunes Script menu, I don’t see it anywhere?
I also recommend PearLyrics – it not only does the job with speed and really impressive accuracy, it also boasts only the 3rd ever “Useful Widget (TM)” which can do the lyric search and display and dropping into iTunes all from the quiet background of the Widget layer.
And best of all, it’s free! FREE, I said!
Seriously, though, it’s pretty slick. And so far I’ve managed to dump all but 2 or 3 of my memory-sucking widgets off the Dashboard. Is it just me, or are Widgets just a big disappointment?
ok blucaso – so what are the no. 1 and 2 Useful Widgets?
I too prefer pearLyrics. Great little program and it finds about 90% of my songs’ lyrics.
I also would love a way to search the lyrics.
I also recommend pearlyrics. It works in the background and adds the lyrics to iTunes automagically. Hit F12 in Tiger to see the lyrics while listening to iTunes.
Also, the nano supports lyrics too. Very Cool.
Pearl Lyrics is the way to go.
Great! I’ll finally be able to find out what Seal is singing!
yep, i’ve been using pearlyrics for a little while now…the best.
pearlyrics – how cool is this?
last time i tried to do an autolookup for anything – was for album art a few years ago – failed miserably with around 70% wrong – forget the app.
haven’t tried anything like it since – was too much trouble to fix.
this however is way cool ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
