“Gadgets of every description have flowed through the doors of CNET for 10 years. Picking a list of the 10 best is an exercise in healthy but vocal arguments. Everyone has a different idea of what is meant by best,” Tom Merritt writes for CNET. “But the 10 we’ve included here had the most wide-ranging acceptance.”
CNET’s Top 10 Products for the Last 10 Years:
1. iPod (2001): “No other product has had the incredible, loyal devotion that the iPod inspires. It’s also one of only a handful of products to get a 9 rating from CNET. It revolutionized and popularized music players with its stylish design and is still considered the industry leader. Even if you devoutly believe other music players have better features now, you have to acknowledge that iPod is still the king.”
2. TiVo (1999)
3. Google (1996)
4. Original Napster (1999): “Here’s a product that wouldn’t make the list in its current form, but the original version came close to deserving the phrase ‘changed the world.'”
5. Firefox (2004)
6. PalmPilot (1996): “When PalmPilots first came out in 1996, they changed the way everyone thought about personal organization. It seems natural to have an electronic calendar in the palm of your hand now, but that wasn’t really true before 1996. No, we haven’t forgotten the Newton, but that didn’t really succeed, did it?”
7. Motorola Startac (1996)
8. Apple iMac (1998): “The thought of an Apple computer being meaningful was laughable before the iMac. Apple had fallen on hard times, and some predicted its death. Now some of those same pundits say the iMac saved it. Whatever you think, the iMac set Apple on the road to dominating through style and functionality rather than sheer features and power.”
9. Sony Digital Mavica MVC-HD5 (1997)
10. The Sims (2000)

No WMA support or they may have given it an extra point? Right. And if it did, I’d LOWER its rating by a point.
ooops… missed the word 10 year. Good thing it’s a Saturday so being brain-dead doesn’t matter as much….
torn..
that doesn’t explain why a Video Game about what it’s like to leave the house made the list and..er.. the iTMS (500 billion and counting) didn’t.
and iTunes made CNET’s Top 10 Download list

Of course nothing from Micro$oft on that list either!
mw = ANY (I’ll let all of you have fun with that!)
You mean 500 million, right?
“[The iPod] revolutionized and popularized music players with its stylish design and is still considered the industry leader.”
OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!1!!!!1 “considered”????? How about IS??
Why aren’t people ripping on the author for this obvious slam?
MW = passed, as in “I hope this guy passed a kidney stone after writing this trash!”
Praise the Lord! CNET finally said something good about Apple. There’s hope after all! A
nd yes, the iMac should have ranked higher.
[The iPod] revolutionized and popularized music players with its stylish design and is still considered the industry leader.”
OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!1!!!!1 “considered”????? How about IS??
That depends on what the definition of ‘IS’ is…
Also, they acknowlegde Palm Pilot as more successful than Newton. (So, by my count, that gives Apple 2 1/2 entries; and MS 0.
It might be a bit premature, but fun to think about:
“Microsoft Death Knell widget”
MW “eight” , so let the countdown roll from, say, eight yrs?
Scott, we won solidly tonight. Weatherford is coming into his own. You must be a Florida Gator. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
The Newton wouldn’t qualify anyway because it debuted in ’93. But it’s good they mentioned Apple pioneered the idea.
Incidentally, “considered” is as good as “is” because it means pretty much everyone thinks it.
Microsoft may not be on the list but they are crying all the way to the bank. Oh well. (Is Budweiser still the king of beers?)
Excuse me but wasn’t Original Napster (1999) a product that designed to illegally copy music? If that is the criteria, then we should have added all the Microsoft viruses added in the last ten years. That could easily be on top of a list of electronic stuff that changed the world.
The iPod (#1) and the PalmPilot (#6) are not allowed to be synced to my wife’s computer at her work because of the fear of viruses. So what good are they?
the nano is great despite what anyone says… its small, lightweight, color screen, and beautiful.. it is very easily scatched which sucks, but thats why they make cases… and apples cases are by far the best… it holds just as much as my mini did.. glad i i got my money back for it to pay for the nano.. thanks walmart!!! and all that FM stuff is crap… the best way to go if ur car doesnt already support iPod connections is get a blitzsafe adapter.. i just installed one in my beetle.. and is works flawlessly.. perfect clean crisp sound in my car… awesome!!.. not the most fun thing to install.. but installable none the less… my point is iPod’s are great by far.. the nano is the coolest one yet.. but dont be side tracked by the scratch nightmares.. just get a case, blitzsafe and enjoy!!!
*Microsoft sucks donkey d!ck*
That is an insult to eDonkey users everywhere.
The Ipod video ROCKS!!!, the display is cristal clear and the color if u got black is sleek and cool looking. But whats the problem then? the ipod scratches like a CD ya if you got it when it just came out then none of the stores have cases yet to fit it and that sh*t rag that came with it to hold it get really annoying.but with a case how can you enjoy the look if its covered up ever thought of that MAC
over all love it crisp sound great display just short battery life with the back light on and sratches easily you should buy on but get a case first
TRUST ME!!!!!
