“I took her to see iPod nano last night, at Apple’s mini store in downtown Bethesda, Md. My wife and daughter both gawked, while I showed just a ting more restraint. To say the device is small really doesn’t describe the size. Best is to say that everything else is huge by comparison. I had been thinking that Apple redefined a category. My mistake, Apple has invented a new one,” Wilcox writes.

This is so true. I went to a Yoga class two days after the nano was released. Sure enough, two groups of ladies were buzzing about it. Apple has done it again.
I love the way he says he took his wife to see iPod nano. Like it’s a show, families will be going a few times a week. I don’t think many people go to a shop just to see a creative zen.
The Nano is sweet and all, but Apple hasn’t really invented anything new here. Flash mp3 players have been around since the late 90’s. True its got a really nice color screen, bigger capacity, and photo capabilities, but I wouldn’t expect anything less… its 2005/6.

More and more people are complaining about how easily they scratch, even when great care is taken to avoid them.
I am concerned that this could develop into a possible class action lawsuit if enough people get angry.
One guy on the Nano forum at Apple posted that his screen shattered from keeping the Nano in his pants pocket as shown on the ad. ??
Glad I bought a Mini instead after seeing the sad state of the Nano demo units at the Apple store after only a day of exposure to the public. They looked like they had been buffed with a piece of steel wool.

my ipod nano got no scratched no easier than my regular ipod…
if his screen truly did bust just from keeping it in his pants pocket (as I also do) he probably just got a dud and should write in asking for it to be replaced.
A nano in 32GB (camera connector compatible) and I’ll fork over $500 for it.

Anyone who doubts that this is a problem need only visit the Nano forum over at Apple. The scratching issue is one of the most common topics there. People are getting pissed, and so would I.

P.S. The Nano is not made out of the same material as previous glossy iPODs. MUCH SOFTER PLASTIC.

My heart goes out to all the people who thought the iPod nano was made from magic crystal instead of plastic.
apple always fleeces the zealots who will buy anything with their logo right off the line… or any hyped product… and milk it dry.
They cripple their ware and update it later… by end of its product life, they have an almost perfect product after adding all the changes they could and then they completely change it… or add another product… witness the evolution of the ibook, for example.
or the ipod photo.

Clue time: Pretty much the only people who post at Apple.com are those with problems looking for help. Reading the posts is not a good way to gauge product quality. The impression you’d get would be that everything Apple makes is crap, which is quite obviously not true to the 95%+ of the people who have no problems.
