Apple’s new iPod nano units enter Amazon’s top selling MP3 players list

Apple’s new iPod nano units have entered Amazon.com’s top selling MP3 players list even though they are currently marked “Not yet released. Pre-order this item.”

Amazon’s most popular MP3 players, updated hourly, are currently:

1. Apple 20 GB iPod
2. Apple 4 GB iPod mini Silver
3. Apple 20 GB iPod photo
4. Apple 4 GB iPod nano Black
5. Apple 60 GB iPod photo
6. Apple 30 GB iPod photo
7. Sony MDR-NC6 Noise-Canceling Headphones (? – not an MP3 player!)
8. Apple 4 GB iPod mini Pink
9. Apple 512 MB iPod shuffle
10. Apple 4 GB iPod mini Blue
11. Apple 1 GB iPod shuffle
12. Apple 4 GB iPod mini Green
13. Sennheiser PX 100 Headphones (? – not an MP3 player!)
14. SanDisk 512 MB MP3 Player Blue
15. Apple 4 GB iPod nano White
16. Apple 20 GB iPod photo U2 Special Edition
17. Sony MDR-A35G S2 Sports Headphones (? – not an MP3 player!)
18. SanDisk 256 MB MP3 Player Red
19. Apple 2 GB iPod nano Black

23. Apple 6 GB iPod mini Silver

25. Apple 2 GB iPod nano White

33. Apple 6 GB iPod mini Pink

36. Apple 6 GB iPod mini Blue

39. Apple 6 GB iPod mini Green

64. Apple 30 GB iPod photo from HP

68. Apple 60 GB iPod photo from HP

The above snapshot (changes hourly) pretty clearly shows the relative popularity of the iPod nano units. Buyers seem to prefer larger capacities and black over white, at least on Amazon.com as of right now. Excluding headphones (primarily because they are not MP3 players, duh), which also throw off the numerical rankings of players, Apple clearly dominates the list.
