“This year’s Apple Expo will not feature a formal keynote presentation at Palais des Congrès,” Apple-Expo.com now reads. This directly contradicts a rumor from AppleInsider, published August 8 which stated that Apple Computer chief executive and cofounder Steve Jobs was scheduled to present the opening keynote address at this year’s Apple Expo.
On August 12, in a “MacDailyNews Note” regarding a rumor that new PowerBook G4s would debut at Apple Expo Paris, we reported, “There has been no official announcement from either Apple Computer or Apple Expo that Apple CEO Steve Jobs will be the keynote speaker. No keynote speaker has yet been named.”
Last year, due to Steve Job’s treatment for pancreatic cancer, Apple marketing honcho Phil Schiller stood in to debut the iMac G5 on August 31, 2004. The Apple Expo 2005 Keynote presentation was to be held at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, on Tuesday, September 20th beginning at 10:00am, (4pm EDT).
The news that there will be no Steve Jobs keynote presentation at Apple Expo Paris this year certainly boosts the importance of Apple’s September 7th media event.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs will still attend Apple Expo Paris show as members of Apple’s executive team will be hosting a Q&A session for members of the media on the opening day and will also be at Apple Expo throughout the week, according to a report by Jim Dalrymple for MacCentral. Full article here.

Does that mean that there will be no new products in time for Christmas?
That does not spell well for Apple. I hope there will be some special event before the end of the month, Macintosh related.
I wonder if something else ominous is happening as I have already booked my first come first served (for seating) ticket for the Keynote.

Seats for the Keynote Address are limited and will be provided on a “first come, first served” basis. Please be sure to arrive at the Palais des Congrès de Paris at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the Keynote Address.
What this means is that no new products from Apple will be announced during the Paris Expo. So whatever comes along on Wednesday morning in SF is going to be it for perhaps the remainder of 2005. You’ll see a few minor updates of course between then and year end, but nothing totally new after Wednesday until MacWorld SF in January 2006.
Already have my badge for the Keynote, and already cancelled my reservations in Paris for the Expo now. Maybe my badge will be a collector’s item

Change is good. This may be indicative of a new marketing direction for the Apple brand. The era of glorified infomercials is over and Steve Jobs is taking a step back from being the face of Apple. One day he will announce his resignation and with enough planning in the years leading up to it, Apple will not suffer a loss of confidence from its share holders and customers.
Then again Apple may be announcing all their new products this Wednesday and Steve does not feel it is necessary to make another speech at the end of the month.
This makes me look forward very, very much to this Wednesday!

No Keynote = NO NEW PRODUCTS?
Terrible! I hope that tommorrow we get something more than just another new iPod line.
This may be part of the trend that I have seen commented on recently. Apple may be moving away from announcing new products mostly at expos because it can result in a major drop in sales just before as people wait to see what will be coming out that is new. One writer postulated that Apple will mostly be doing new product announcements at random intervals from now on to avoid the negative impact on sales.
I have to admit, I have held off on purchases when an expo is near.
New product lines typically are announced at events/keynotes … revisions to existing lines can still happen without a keynote … while dissappointing to those attending, I don’t think this means no changes to the existing Mac lineup before the end of the year. Wednesday just got much more interesting.
Apple engineers working overtime on next years’ Intel related products me thinks. MacWorld SF should be amazing. Hope this Wednesday sees more than one new product though.
I hope the Boys From Cupertino have more to announce than just an iTunes Moto Phone – yawn.
The world is Apple’s oyster right now. I sure hope they are dreaming bigger dreams than that. It’s time for Apple to separate themselves from the pack and once again change the direction of technology; like Macintosh did back in the day.

Mac computers will soon go the way of the dodo bird because to much energy is being put on iPODs. I thought Apple was a computer company – not an entertainment company. Entertainment 24/7 is for mental midgets. Music like sex should be enjoyed only 3 times a week.
This is going to hurt apple stock. I think they are just going to show off everything tomorrow.
Everyone calm down. The iPod was not announced at an expo. Apple has moved away from Expo product announcements for several years now. This news does not mean there will be no new products by Christmas, and don’t be surprised if the iPhone is the only product announced Wednesday. Apple is playing by new rules, and we are lucky for this. Now every Tuesday could be a new product unveiling!
And when the Intel products are ready, be prepared to be amazed!

Well… Given the “…there we go again” line in the invite to Wednesday’s event, it would seem to me that the event would have to introduce something that would at least have the same potential as the iPod seemed to have at its inception. Somehow, an iPhone doesn’t seem to be in that league IMHO.

I just got my badge today…
I think this week’s event has to be more than the iTMS phone. I mean, Apple isn’t even the manufacturer of that phone, they just made software for the music side. I don’t think this thing is going to make huge waves like the iPod did. Then again, Apple is the only company with the potential to bring something mind blowing out of what would seem mundane. I guess we’ll find out soon.
As for the lack of keynote, my guess is that they intended to introduce dual core G5s, but then it turned out that IBM couldn’t produce as promised, just like with the G5 iMacs last year. Same problem, different chip.
No Steve presence at Keynote.

September 7th will see a big announcement from Apple concerning a music device.
iPhone, new flash based iPod Mini’s with color screens and some sort of larger iPod, possibly video so one can show music videos along with the music. No movies is my best guess. Hollywood hates computers.
We will see a iTunes 5 and improved .Mac with blog and photo uploading widgets etc. Possibly even DLS service with .Mac, now that Apple is cozy with a phone company.
Steve Jobs dislikes cable companies, they are “a monopoly” in his eyes. And I’ll agree Comcast has encroached into Apple software, they are producing their own iChat and like services to strengthen their hold.
I even get rude replies from Comcast employees when I say I have a Mac. They try to get me to switch to a PC so their “software” will work and they can come in and “control” my machine to fix it.
Apple needs to do something so they can remote repair newbies computers.
Since Mac’s are transititioning to Intel based chips, and the developers are still writing code, and Intel doesn’t even HAVE dual core’s ready to go yet till 2006, we are in limbo until then.
My advice if you need a PowerMac is to buy one now or else wait for the quad processor (dual dual core) PowerMactels to arrive.
If you need a Mac laptop buy what you need, but if you can wait these will be the first MacTels to arrive IMO.

I hope you are only referring to Pentium M’s. Yonah’s will be out in Q1 2006. The Pentium D and Xtreme are already dual core chips.
Does anyone here think a regular (non-dual-core) Pentium M Powerbook could be released before X-mass? There will be no performance advantages, and not many universal binaries to install, but the low heat-emission and long battery-life could make it interesting… It would seem possible to me that a Yonah based Powerbook will be offered along side a single-core Pentium M as an option..
