Report: Motorola Apple iTunes phone won’t debut at Virgin Mobile V Fest, to appear Q4 2005

“While certain sectors of the British Press had convinced themselves that Motorola would announce its first operator deal with the UK’s Virgin Mobile at the V music festival this weekend, a Virgin Mobile insider denied it categorically,” Tony Dennis reports for The Inquirer.

“Our informant was adamant that no plans for a E790 launch were in place for this weekend. Motorola is now officially saying that the handset won’t become available through major network operators until the end of September (ie Q4 2005),” Dennis reports.

  1. I remember, at the first announcement of this vaporphone, someone from Moto said they always announced products months in advance, and they didn’t understand why Steve Jobs liked to keep things basically secret until they were ready for (well, within a month of) shipping. Apparently, they still don’t.

Or else Motorola is trying to fsck with their stock price.

I’ve never posted one of the popular “MDN, please stop posting any more articles about this topic” messages, but with the iTunes phone, I’m getting close.

  2. Frankly, I don’t give a damn if they ever release it. This is the biggest Apple screw-up ever. If they aren’t serious about such a product, just say so.

As for Motorola, phones are their business and I believe Apple’s apparent dissatisfaction with whatever Moto has done is the buggaboo.

In any event, the Razr is cool as is the iPod. One of each is fine with me.

  3. Doesn’t Q4 end June 30?

They have delayed the lauch for so long, the phone is probably yesterday’s technology and will fail miserably.

Jobs should team up with Nokia or simply write a version of iTunes/QT for Symbian OS (or OS X mobile) and release it for all phones.

Nokia at least meets deadlines and delivers. Has Motorola ever met a promised delivery date in the past 10 years?
