California iGovernor: Apple, Pixar CEO Steve Jobs?

“With Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s popularity plummeting, a growing number of Democrats are asking whether state Treasurer Phil Angelides and Controller Steve Westly should be the party’s only choices for governor,” John Wildermuth and Carla Marinucci report for The San Francisco Chronicle.

“Prominent Democrats ranging from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and former Rep. Leon Panetta to non-politicians such as businessman Steve Jobs and comedian Robin Williams are mentioned in the quiet conversations of Democratic activists, although no one is saying anything — at least publicly — about jumping into the race,” Wildermuth and Marinucci report.

“Steve Jobs, co-founder and head of Apple Computers and Pixar studios and a major donor to the Democratic Party, is another person regularly mentioned as a possible candidate for governor, O’Connor and others say,” Wildermuth and Marinucci report. “But for Jobs and many others, an important question remains: Do they have the interest in a thankless job like governor of California?”

Of Steve Jobs’s chances, Wildermuth writes, “Way too many Windows users out there.”

  1. The dems have already put this great country on the road to self destruction, ( Just take a look at a few of the trash movies coming out of Un-holywood). We may have a chance if President Bush starts to act like a conservative. Leave S. Jobs to do what he does best, make money. Is that a liberal idea?

  2. Jobs tends to listen to his constituency. The California State Legislature is just the opposite. They are a bunch of tax and spend socialists with no grasp of reality whatsoever. If Jobs thinks he has a reality distortion field, try a legislature that believes we can always spend more than we take in and everything will be just fine, just tax the corporations and the rich, no big deal, and yes, we can afford to import all the poor of Mexico and our crumbling infrastructure will take care of itself.

Don’t know if Jobs could handle that kind of reality distortion.

As far as Schwarzenegger, here’s a man who has an administration predicated on one simple principal: “We will not spend more than we take in,” and they go after this guy like he’s Hitler or something.

California doesn’t deserve Steve Jobs, or Apple, or even Schwarzenegger.

    We are idiots here.

  3. Keep Stevo out of politics. His Democratic liberal orientation is the one thing that turns my stomach about him. Thinking of Stevo as a whiny, government’s function is to take care of me, no accountability for laziness, immoral, piss-and-moan agenda is something that I would not recover from. Keep Stevo out of politics, PLEASE!!!!! Celebrities make terrible leaders. Just look at what Governor Ventura did for Minnesota. It as a freaking joke. “iGovernor” my ass!!!!

  4. The Liberator: What you say about the words “liberal” and “conservative” is true. And in fact there is hardly anyone who epitomizes either word in every aspect of life. On the other hand, both words have acquired connotations, and those are usually what people fight over, not the relative merits of the dictionary definitions. For example, I don’t consider political liberals (categorically) as “free from bigotry”, reformers, progressive, tolerant, or broad-minded. If they were all those things, I might be more supportive of their agendas. And to be fair, political conservatives are not always “moderate” or “cautious.”

RE: Steve Jobs as president: I think he does a great job doing what he’s doing. I would hate to see him diverted.

  5. Steve Jobs as Governor? Creatively using people to build the machines of technology is one thing, but creatively using the machine of politics to build people quite another! Sure Steve cares about people, but the product still comes first. In politics, meeting the needs of the people come first. Steve is a brilliant product man and hopefully will stay in his proper element.

  6. Yeah. 4 more years of war. 4 more years of gouging at the pumps. 4 more years of making enemies all over the world. 4 more years of Washington-issued terrorist threats. 4 more years of LIES LIES LIES!

    Enron/Haliburton ’08

(By the way, you hate-mongering cons probably have more liberal values than you realize, and likewise for the libs — more conservative values than you realize.)

  7. American should demand that their so-called leaders have a deep business or technical background and or training. I know SJ doesn’t have a degree, but our leaders should have a technical degree, something that shows that have real interests and didn’t just fall (or flunk) into politics.

Most Chinese leaders as I understand have technical degrees and we are starting to see how focussed they are at removing political barriers and embracing the “new” world.

The US is getting run over. California is very progressive, even Arnold is, compared to the rest of the country. SJ should run for President. We need his vision and communication abilities where we lack logic in our broken political system.

Would SJ be a good administrator? Probably not as good as John Kerry would have been, but it would take someone like SJ to get the whole country to focus on certain goals like switching to alternative energy, improving education in a national system, national healthcare, reducing local pork projects, building a national public transportation system with rail and busses, etc.

Our country is a wreck. SJ as President, or even as Gov of CA, would shake the political system.

That said, I think the chances of SJ actually running are about zero.

  8. Naraa Haras says: “American should demand that their so-called leaders have a deep business or technical background and or training. I know SJ doesn’t have a degree, but our leaders should have a technical degree, something that shows that have real interests and didn’t just fall (or flunk) into politics.”

A little tidbit you might find interesting: Most of the Mexican dictators … uh, that is, ‘presidentes’ … of the last couple decades have been technocrats, mostly US educated economists and business majors, and they haven’t been doing particularly well. You can find similar stories in many countries.

That’s not to say that people with technical educations are bad leaders per se. The point is that the problems you might find with any leader aren’t necessarily related to his/her educational background. After all, a head of state of any advanced country is going to have a whole host of advisors at his disposal, and they can certainly provide guidance on technical issues. It’s their background in society, otherwise known as ‘life experiences’, that tend to be the most important, as they try to integrate that knowledge into policies that actually benefit the country as a whole (not just a special segment of it that they happen to be familiar with).

If leaders have never really been a part of the society they are supposed to lead, in the sense that they understand what it’s like to live in the shoes of the majority of the people, then you’re almost gauranteed to run into problems. Arnie has been either a narcacistic bodybuilder or a Hollywood multimillionaire his entire late teen-to-adult life. GWB has been even more sheltered, starting from the cradle. Why anyone should be surprised now that both are failing as leaders in their respective roles as Caretakers of the People is beyond me. Neither has any real idea of what it’s like to BE “people”, in the normative sense that we all take for granted.

Keep your eyes open for competent, down to earth people who know what it’s like not only to be wildly successful (i.e. rich), but who also have lived (or even still are living) a life we can all relate to. Then vote for them! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how smoothly things will turn out – at least in comparison to how things are going now.

  9. The problems in California have been mainly caused by the socialists in power. Putting in another one (Steve Jobs) will only make things worse.

What is needed is a more business friendly climate, lower taxes, and democrats voluntarily donating more of their OWN money to help support the people they want supported. (in other words, put your money where your mouth is).

  10. Odyssey, won’t ever happen, since politics appeals to narcissistic egomanics, precisely the opposite of down to earth folks like us.

And, of course, whether Bush or Arnold are failing is simply opinion at this point. The left’s reliance on cleverly weighted opinion polls (as opposed to winning elections) obviously means nothing when the rubber meets the road. Check out California on November eighth to find out which way the wind is really blowing.

  11. It would cost Apple so many sales from the many millions of right-wing nut jobs (see various comments already from those who think a control freak closed system promoting businessman is a Left Winger. Or indeed that Liberalism = Left Wing – it used to considered the centre, which just shows how screwed up and unbalanced your country has become – but then again, provided you’re not at the bottom who gives a shit. Except of course they are all just lazy! (Of course).

Equally, may the Californian state properly tackle the Teachers and other tax grabbing public sector employees. Then you can find out what kind of society you will create without universal good quality education (Clue : look at most countries that have it and the ones that don’t and see which ones are succesful). Who the f**k would want to be a teacher – they get shit off the pupils all day and shit off the conservatives all the time, but very few conservatives believe in their philosophies to go and work in (public rather than [private school) education. A shame as they have some really good things to offer (like encouraging self-reliance). But then why go into education when you can tell people how they should be doinging their job instead?
(Like any businessman would listen to a teachers opinion on how they should run their business).

HHAHAHA! Go back to reading your bible and not believing in evolution you caveman. Yes, being open to new ideas and not forcing your theological B.S. onto everyone will destroy us all!

Get a clue asshole. We’re the laughing stock of the world and it’s not because of the democrats.

  13. johnny,

If you libs carry on the way you’re going, you’ll abort the future out of this country. Now call some more infantile nanes.

MW-all…as in all life has a right to be born.

  14. I don’t know who is laughing at us, but I hope it isn’t the Eurotrash EU states with stagnated 10% unemployment economies and islamofascist minorities. My favorite is the once fancy colonial power which loses elderly by the thousands when it gets hot.

As far as teacher unions go, we tried giving them the store, and found that spending and education aren’t synonymous. Time to try something else.

Have a nice time gnashing your teeth this weekend liberals. It it weren’t for those darn elections, I am sure things would be going your way.

  15. Steve Jobs a politician – what are you guys smoking?
The guy is a dictator. Do what it Steve´s way or the highway.

Steve´s appearances are carefully controlled. If people would ever see the real Steve they would be shocked.

  16. To Listen up Liberty:

Mongol King George Walker is a fascist, but his deranged podcasts are only serving to advertise that fact to anyone not already in the know. That, I would think, is a good thing.

As for his iPod, well if he is busy listening to that while he rides his bike (the secret service should put training wheels on that thing for his safety), well, he isn’t opening any nuclear “football”s and pressing big red switches. Personally, I’d rather he have an iPod to play with than have him nuking something.

So you see, Steve Jobs is performing a great service to humanity. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” /> I’d love him as governor, or better yet, as president, but he is fulfilling an important mission already. The computer industry needs a savior, and he’s it.

BTW, Baby Mothra resents the “worm” implication. She is the worm who lovingly makes the bite in every Apple Logo, and she, the monster of peace, is very angry at Bush. George Walker was the alias of the bad guy in her very first movie, and George Walker’s have only worsened with age.
