Apple today released iSync 2.1 which works on all Macintosh computers with Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4 or later. iSync 2.1 for Mac OS X Tiger synchronizes compatible applications in Tiger including Address Book and iCal calendar and your iSync compatible mobile phone or Palm OS device.
iSync 2.1 supports compatibility for more devices such as the latest Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic and Sony Ericsson phones. For a complete list of supported devices, please check: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
iSync 2.1 is available via Software Update or via standalone installer from Apple.com. More info and download link (3MB) here.
slow news day …
And 10.4.2 is coming when…?
Why do I need to restart just to update iSync? WTF?

Eventually
“Why do I need to restart just to update iSync? WTF?”
New and/or updated drivers.
What comes to support for Nokia’s Series 60 phones, Apple hasn’t been too keen on updating the list. It’s great to see that they’re finally supporting the 6680, 6681 and 6682!
Snooze. I was hoping for this update to fix iSync and the limited features with Symbian based phones. I have a Nokia 6620. It’s a great phone and it does sync contacts…but not nearly as full featured as with a SE T637. The Sony would work perfectly with the address book and show who was calling and you could also dial through the address book to the phone. Small things, yeah, but cool nonetheless.
Come on Apple, Symbian OS is on many, many phones. Is FULL support coming anytime soon?
Here’s something that might work with Series 60 phones (or other brands for that matter, you got to dig a little deeper in the message hierarchy) which are not officially supported: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050422125043439
So who is going to dig into the modifications in iSync 2.1 and tell us about iPhone features?
They should make the iSync update part of the OS X update. Too many updates trickling in, I don’t care if it’s every two months, just make one update that provides all the current improvements/bug fixes for everything that’s packaged with OS X. I’m not going to reset my computer just for some rinky dink iSync update. OK, so I don’t have a top of the line cell phone….
with that said, this maybe foreshadowing an iminent 10.4.2 release…
Question:
I haven’t had any time lately to scrounge around on how to do this, but…
Is there any way to remove an update from Software Update? In my case: I used the iWork demo that came with Tiger, and it expired in 30 days (as in, it has already expired). With dial-up, a nearly 50 MB combined update to Pages and Keynote seems useless and time-consuming now.
How can I remove them from the list?
Alright, alright… I know I just posted, but I just caught this…
On <a >Paul Thurrott’s Internet Nexus</a>, one earlier articles of the day reads: “PalmOS Is Dead”.
Then another headline (on the exact same day, no less) reads:
“iSync Update 2.1”
iSync 2.1 for Mac OS X Tiger synchronizes compatible applications in Tiger including Address Book and iCal calendar and your iSync compatible mobile phone or Palm OS device.
Funny guy.
Heh… I’d fix that link, but, you know… it’s Thurrott.
(I’ll stop posting now)
Still got this moronic new way of setting up syncing in multiple locations and having to keep iSync open at all times.
Tiger and syncing is a major step backwards…
Excellent!
I have just got the Sony Ericcson K750i too!
Great phone and now works via isync too!
COOOOL!
For those asking for 10.4.2 should remember that it will be 18 months until 10.5. Don’t expect 10.4.x updates as often as we have seen them in the past
I’m not going to look a gift horse in the mouth…but after installing the new 10.4.2 update my Nokia 6620 w/ Symbian OS is working with ***ALL**** iSync functions. I was already able to sync nubmers to phone, but the ability of address book to dial and send SMS was not functioning.
The iSync update yesterday didn’t seem to do anything, but this latest system update has it all working perfectly…just as my Sony Ericcson T637 did in the past.
VERY COOL. Anyone else find the same benefit?
Why cannot Isync be compatible with most phones and PDAs ? It makes little sense that so many devices that one wants to use, one simply cannot with Isync. For example, a terrific basic nokia the 6020 or 6120 – ideal for people who just want to use a phone and sync with a laptop or desktop, is not supported by Apple. WHY ?! They have made my life sooooo difficult while choosing my next device . Might even be a TERRIFIC idea for Apple to have native sync capabilities with Win Mobile 2003 SE and 2005 devices – automatically millions of Win based PDA / smartphone users will be attracted to Macs
Any one any clue how to fix the fact that I cannot send sms from my Address Book (i have a motorola v535 and os 10.4.2) other i-sync features work fine (I have the 2.1 update). Any advice would be really helpful. None of my land-bound techie friends can help me here.
