Report: Apple to release Mac OS X 10.4.2 Tiger this week

“Apple Computer this month is expected to update its retail copies of Mac OS X 10.4 to included the first two maintenance releases to the Tiger operating system, ensuring that all new customers obtain the most stable and reliable version of Mac OS X directly out of the box,” AppleInsider reports.

“The company’s online store in Canada is already listing for sale the current version of Mac OS X as “OS X V10.4.2 ‘Tiger’ Retail,” although the latest official release remains at 10.4.1. Developers contacted by AppleInsider also said they are expecting to receive Mac OS X 10.4.2 on optical media — something Apple did not offer with the release of Mac OS X 10.4.1 last month,” AppleInsider reports. “Mac OS X 10.4.2, which is due for release from the company this week, will reportedly deliver over 80 fixes and enhancements to Tiger, in addition to those included with Mac OS X 10.4.1.”

The many fixes expected in the release are listed in the full article here.

  1. Here we go again…

How many times does Apple have to update OS 10.x until they get it right. We in the “real IT world” do not want to have to update our OS every month. This is a computer company that is totally out of touch with the realities of deployment on an enterprise level. Furthermore, the switch to an entire new hardware framework does nothing but create a legacy software and hardware nightmare.

Sorry Apple but no thanks, we will stick to the proven OS developer Microsoft and the soon to be released Longhorn OS.

  2. Sputnik has found a new way to spin the ponderous development of Windows into a positive. “Our OS never changes, so you don’t have to either. Just install the patch of the day and pray.”

  3. I agree with Sputnik. If OSX is so great, why are they always repairing it? XP has only had one service pack so far. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

  4. “proven OS developer”. ok so what has MS “proven”? that they can make an OS full of security holes? no thanks but i’ll take a very secure OS that is continually improved over anything MS makes..

mw “call” as in…good call sputnik…stay with ur 4 year old (or older) OS.

  5. ok just wait for longhorn…if it ever arrives, and see how many updates they release in the months that follow. you will more than answer your own question then.

    mw “john”…whoa

  6. So let me see Sput, every second Tuesday Microsoft releases critical patches and every now and then releases service packs. Tell me these things cause less disruptions than OS 10.4.x releases which install easily and generally don’t break things? Get real.

  7. Johnny One-Nut’s answers always crack me up! He feels that XP must not be broken and that’s why there have been no updates. Man, now that is humor for you!!!

Microsoft proves they continue to have flaws, they are releasing 8 more Windows patches after having hundreds already in the last 5 years, and the original retail copies of Windows XP aren’t supported without SP2.

After almost 5 years Microsoft, Windows XP continues to expose users’ data to malicious attacks and they are producing an amount of fixes that equate to 10% of Apple’s point release.

  9. “Windows XP continues to expose users’ data to malicious attacks”

Really, huh? Know many people that have suffered a “malicious attack” on their system?

I must be missing out on all the fun, but my XP box seams to be just fine thank you very much.

Seriously, stop spreading FUD on topics you know so little about.

Use OS X and enjoy it, but don’t try and spread pure crap to make you feel better.

  10. stantheman — I get at least a PC a week that has had some kind of “malicious attack” some poor home user that has no idea how to fix the PC but is still forced to pay me to get them out of hole just because they email and surf the web, and that is all they do. If I don’t have to reinstall from the recover CD, I apply all the updates and turn on auto update, which just might keep them upto date for a time. Your XP box seams to be just fine mostlikly because you spend 45 min a week keeping it up to date and scanning for software.

    >Sorry Apple but no thanks, we will stick to the proven OS developer Microsoft and the soon to be released Longhorn OS.>

Don’t worry little sputnik, they may release you pretty soon also.

MW–english. SB spelled with a cap ‘E’. Also it would be great to have it used properly sometimes.

  12. um, people, sputnik is kidding. If any of you frequent this site, you’d realise that he is being facetious. His posts mimick the mantra of Windows using trolls.

  13. we had a new Dell online where the user uninstalled the virus software. She was just suppose to disable while registering is my understanding. It took 20 minutes before the computer was unusable and 10 hours to get it up and running again. I use Dell at work but Mac at home. That seems logical to me.
