Apple’s as-yet-unreleased Mac OS X ‘Tiger’ Amazon’s Software Top Seller

“Apple Computer will report second-quarter earnings on Wednesday after the close. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call expect the company to report earnings of 24 cents per share on revenue of $3.17 billion. Apple is thought to be close to launching a new version of its Mac OS X operating system before the end of the month, possibly as early as next week. Last week, Piper Jaffray maintained an ‘outperform’ rating for Apple and said that a recent check with online retailers ‘shows that Apple continues to hold a significant computer market presence.’ It said, ‘Apple’s OS X 10.4 (Tiger) operating system software, which has not been released yet, was the number one seller in the Software Top Seller category [at]. Though it is hard to determine how the rank translates to revenue, it is safe to say that the success of the Tiger preorder was a surprise to us, given that it is outselling the seasonally strong TurboTax software,'” Peter Kang reports for Forbes.

    Who says Apple can’t outsell Microsoft in OS software ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”raspberry” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Does anyone else not see the irony of Norton Internet Security being second in the top-sellers list?? The choice is clear – either switch to Mac OS or buy umpteen antivirus programmes! I know which of the two I prefer…

  4. I use the best antiV software there is, Mac OS X. and from what i see at work, the news is getting out. Tiger will make my new iMac complete, and me a happy Macdude.

You think someone is writing an article about that?
You think Panasonic is sending out news articles on this?
This Amazon ranking stuff news is sooooooooooooooo stupid.
Apple people get excited and pumped up over the most trivial apple things. You will know when Apple is finally doing good, when MDN and others don´t grasp for straws like this “news” story to make Apple sound successful

  6. Give it a break Gackle – MDN doesn’t *need* to flag up these stories or convince any of us that Mac OS is the most superior operating system. And we certainly don’t need your snide comments. Apple has always been successful in creating a superior product – a fact you seem to be ignorant of. The only area it has failed to find significant success in until recently is in the commercial sector, and that due to a whole host of reasons. Find something sensible to say next time.

  7. Hermann: “Give it a break Gackle – MDN doesn’t *need* to flag up these stories or convince any of us that Mac OS is the most superior operating system.”

So you are impressed by the Amazon ranking of the hour thing? Whooo-hooo!
This ranking does not say anything about how great the Mac OS is – it is just churning by MDN to put anything up on its website to get you and me and other to come to this site and read unnewsworthy news.
You don´t get it Hermann and you didn´t get the point of my first post.

Now go back to polishing your Steve Jobs autographed photo.

  8. I wish I had a Steve Jobs autographed photo…. He’s done more for the personal computer industry than most. I did get the point of your first post but it is still irrelevant. The Amazon thing, frankly, doesn’t necessarily mean anything, so attacking it or lauding it really isn’t going to achieve anything. It’s MDN’s job to report and comment on stuff like this – you, on the other hand, are working for no pay and no one is appreciating your work… goodbye

  9. Hermann: “… you, on the other hand, are working for no pay and no one is appreciating your work…”
    -And you, Hermann?

Hermann: “It’s MDN’s job to report and comment on stuff like this..”
    – It is? Who makes them put up this Amazon trivia?

And if it is not anyone one´s job to comment of the info posted here, why does MDN have a FEEDBACK section Hermannnnn???????

  10. Gackle, this is an Apple news site. Its purpose is to report on news items, however big or small. This is a news item. Piper Jaffrey has made this news. Get it?

  11. G Spank, is this an Apple news site? Gosh, I never knew. Glad you so wisely informed me.

This reporting or looking at Amazon sales means nothing – what is it, 10 copies or 10 gazillion copies sold???
And are you´re so gullible that anything that is reported on the internet or anywhere else you take as gospel and believe it without questioning the value and worth of it?
